According to the Constitution, we ARE the militia. Now as far as joining an organized group militia, I am not a fan. The group could be held responsible for the actions of a few individuals. That's just my opinion.

This^^^

To many possible "fringe" elements that are not properly vetted.

I prefer to be "prepared" myself. However, nothing wrong with networking with other like minded individuals and having contacts and a plan. Like some of the fine folks here on CSC. :)

I would recommend having knowledge of how to fight, what to do in a fight, and the willingness to die for what you believe in. But you won't see me in an organized militia. Now, if the country as we know it breaks down and we have to pick up our arms, I will be right there with you. I may be lying down and not running around, but I will be there.

Tricky topic. As, mentioned, you could end up in a group that could get in trouble due to a few or even a single extremist (or careless person). On the other hand, I believe it is beneficial, even necessary for people of like minds to work together in order to survive a common enemy or enemies. You kinda have to find your own way, finding people closest to your line of thinking and that you trust. Then there is the infiltration issue, because you'll find liars and thieves among those who profess to be your friends.
I envision a lose consortium of small groups of close knit friends. But, this requires a lines of common communications and some level of potential organization.
I'm a big believer in the oath keeper model of a cadre of instructors bringing individuals and small group up to a common skill set. However, what I am seeing is a mishmash of equipment, skills and knowledge, never really reaching the critical mass necessary to move forward.

My granddad and great grandad were both in the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry in the early part of the 20th century. It was a militia commissioned orginally by Geo. Washington. I have a picture of them with the whole militia in full dress at Valley Forge in 1926 celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

MB, next April there will be a gathering on my farm. Not for right wingers, militia, or skin heads but simply for those who want to provide security(food/shelter/med care/etc) for their family in harsh times. We could not meet this fall due to scheduling problems at Millstone. Hope you and yours can come. May even have the range set up a bit more than 100 yds.

NC had, up until about 15 years ago, the North Carolina State Defense Militia. I suppose we technically still do, it is merely inactivated at this time (a campaign is underway to reactivate it). It was used during Desert Storm to man the National Guard Armories when the Guard was activated and sent overseas. It is only for use by and for the State of North Carolina.....it cannot be federalized and sent overseas........nor can the President order it to do anything (the Governor is the Commander in Chief of the NC SDM).

They are, essentially the military reserve of the State, sanctioned by, equipped and trained by the State for emergencies (natural disaster or man made). They are fully sanctioned in NC General statutes, Chapter 127-A.....and fall under in National Guard Adjutant General as far as the Chain of Command. The US DoD even recommends the States have such units (Virginia and SC do).

Family. Start at home, you know them and they know you. Work within that. Bet all of them have different interests/talents to cultivate. Teach your kids self reliance and the principles of liberty. Study. Practice. Keep yourself healthy. Watch. Listen. Learn. Enjoy every good day. Laugh. Bridge the gaps with your neighbors. Do away with prejudice. Drink good coffee. Buy hard wearing clothing. Invest in hard assets. Sometimes the low tech answer is the best one. Be kind to people. Never miss an opportunity to let facts speak for themselves. Sleep good. Always remember firearms and farts are best considered loaded. Learn to garden. Keep a supply of ammo un touched. Some things are great in theory but terrible in practice (Mexican buffets).

I like the concept of a militia, I like the idea of joining one.

I hate what I know it will become or is, and the BS that goes with it. I am not all knowing, I am not the most tactical. But I am a person that does not like most others and the personality of them. It shows in everything I do. I can not stand the Elmer Fund 1970-1980's USMC guy who talks alot of crap and only worked in a PAC office pushing paperwork. I do not like the guy with his AR-15 and 100,001 add on's from Cheaper Then Dirt UTG crap.

So I stay clear because of personal limits.

If you don't have at least 2 Surefires, a Gen III or later night vision attachment for your optic, the cool looking mags that are taped together, and at least one laser attached to your AR, then what good are you?:D

Depends on who you ask. To a libtard the only valid "militia" is the national guard which is controlled by the federal government , though they allow an illusion of state control.
Anything else is a bunch of anti-guv terrorists running around in the woods and creating new Timothy McVeys.

Seems we are a disorganized militia of like minded individuals right now. The question is, could we ever meet or practice during a routine periods, without killing each other. Probably why the national guard was established in the first place. Maybe we just lost sight of the guard's original purpose, after our friends in Washington changed their mission.

I want to be honest here.

The whole idea behind Trace Armory GROUP is to develop peoples skills in SD be it a pistol, carbine or other long gun. I would LOVE to start a group like a Militia without the (m) word. I see the idea of a brotherhood similar to the Masons of old, but the context of preppers of today.

When I think of this, my mind runs to the real context of the Knights Templar in a way, banking for funding, a military side of the house, and all the rest. I do think it would be hard as hell to not attract nut jobs and wacko's to such a group, this is in my mind the context of the quite group like the Masons with lodges and all, but co-ed.

Its a idea.

This idea has a lot of merit....and if you start squad-sized groups among family and friends, then network with other similar groups, it could work nicely. The key is a good, solid plan and vetting people carefully.....and usually through a good, personal relationship. Several coworkers and I talked about getting a land trust together of several like-minded families, buying a tract of land somewhere and setting it up as a campground/range/self-sufficient hangout for the families. Something with governing by laws regarding new admittance, the rules for selling one's stake, as well as requirements for improving/preparing the land to be used if it was ever required.

I dont know about anyone else, but meeting other members at training courses or equipment exchanges, it seems like we already are a militia without being a "militia". There is a network stemming from the chatbox, gun shows or other meetups

None of us on here should join a "militia". As Butter stated above, we already are a militia without being one in the public eye. Just do what you think is right for you and your family. That is all any one of us need to be concerned about. The rest will come together if, God forbid, the need for us to take up arms in defense of our liberties should become necessary. Take care of your family and friends, do "your thing", and ignore the crazy stuff out there on the news or the internet. It's pretty simple actually. Just do "your thing". Ignore the rest................Dave

Yeah,

All I got to say is what I tell people in my rifle classes. when the SHTF the selection of living and dieing will be decided at the start. This process will be based on two things.

1. How large the rucksack is.
2. Target ID in sight picture (friend / foe / nice stuff)

So get to know your peeps around you and lanes of fire.

I hope my wife doesn't know the real me. I've kept this secret since I met her and started dating in 1981. She has no idea that I am a CIA agent. We married in'88. I've been very successful in keeping my secret from her. But it's getting harder to keep her in the dark with the information age we all are living in. She's pretty sharp, but I think I'm sharper and can hold on to my little secret for some time longer. I just hate it that I'll have to kill her once she discovers the truth about me. After all, I'm CIA. If I tell you, then I'll have to kill you.
