So I'm moving from VA to NC. I have my VA concealed carry. Do I need to take the firearms class in person and apply? Or can I change my VA CCW to a non resident permit?

I’m pretty sure that you’ll need a NC CHP when you become a resident. Assuming that’s the case, you’ll need to pass an 8 hour class and then apply to your local Sheriff.

Your VA non-resident permit is valid here for concealed carry but not for purchases.

If you want a NC permit, you will need to take the class.

Until he becomes a 30 day resident of NC...

FYI, the CC permit I was issued from Virginia Beach looks nothing like the one in that article. I've had a permit since I became a resident, and it hasn't changed. It is paper, not plastic, and there is no picture. Now the CC permit I had in Florida was similar to the FL driver's license...hard plastic, with my picture.

My training requirement was satisfied by my DD 214.

Yeah. I'll just go ahead and get my NC resident permit and see if I can switch my VA resident to non resident.
