Worth watching? Any other SHTF shows that you'd recommend?

Pretty much a rush job to cash in on The Hunger Games IMHO. Young female lead and lots of archery. There is potential, we'll just have to see where the writers go. Was not too impressed with the first show, but will be tuning in again.

I was hoping this would be a good "tide over" until they actually make One Second After. The previews had it looking far to Hollywood for the given event; people looking primped and groomed even years into an EMP event. Baloney. But we can't have scraggly looking pretty faces on primetime unless it's called "Survivor" or a canned country music special.

I didn't think it was too bad for a monday nite show. Someone needs to learn a thing or two about firearms on it. Really loved it when the guy fired his musket and it blew him back a couple of feet and why are they all carrying old timey musket style blackpowder rifles. It's still america, even after 15yrs, there's bound to still be modern style blackpower rifles everywhere but no one had those. I do like Billy Burke's character in it though, without him in it I think it would be kinda boring. Hopefully it will improve with the storyline. I think it's just a worldwide dampening field but how did they apply it all at once and maintain it for 15yrs and why?

Yeah the problem is with the physics. They did at least mention it in the opening. EMP is a one time hit and primarily damaging to electronics not all electrical. Will be interesting to see where they go with some of it. There has to be an explanation why electrical power cannot be generated by chemical (firearms) and mechanical can. Agree with the cheesyness but still had some decentness.

As to weapons. Racked my brain for rational on blackpowder. Smokeless powder is going to be a scarce comodity. I don't know enough about the manufacturing of it to know if it's even possible. That doesn't rule out the use of modern blackpowder of course. My thought process ended up at the fact that they were attempting to arm a militia. They would need both a weapon and ammunition they could manufacture themselves in quanities large enough for a small army. Probably overthinking it but isn't that the idea in a show like this.

It's not too bad for a regular run TV show. It may have been better if it came from HBO or A&E or another larger budget network.

The show kind of feels like a Zombie movie without the Zombies.

I will give it a few more times before I pass judgment on it.

Sigh. They CLEARLY didn't have enough .22lr in stock!

No way I'd be down to bow and arrows after only 15 short years....
It was mentioned in the show that it is a capital offense to have a firearm - hence the bows and arrows and crossbows. Only the "government" is allowed to have firearms. What could go wrong? ;)

I don't think they were from the government as we would know it More like whoever has the most power government. Also if you noticed only one or two of the troops had firearms.

In the show, fire arms are banned from being owned by citizens. Militia had muskets, bows, and swords, one guy (a leader) had a pistol. When they showed the army surrounding the general, they had modern assault type rifles.

All in all the show sucks! No where near realistic. You can't stop physics. Even without a power grid, or after an emp, someone would have figured out that you can run some type off motor off of available fuel. An EMP would not be permanent, what is to stop something new from generating electricity?

My insurance agent gets killed in an upcoming episode. He's a part time actor. From what I understand its filmed near Wilmington.
Yes my wife will be in the background in an up coming show LOL. She does extra work in her spare time, mostly when they have weekend or night shoots.

You should read One Second After. Might help with that misinformation of an EMP. While it technically does not last forever (it actually only lasts for a very brief flash), its effects would be so detrimental that most palces would never recover from it. Think of every single thing with circuitry being fried and made useless...even the factories that would make replacement "things" or even "things" to repair the broken "things." It's all fried...boat anchors. Yes, there'd be small advancements in finding other sources of mechanical power, but for the most part, we'd be back to the 16 and 17 hundreds in terms of technology. That is, of course, we can commandeer the invading Chinese equipment and use their undamaged stuff.

You guys are missing the point on the EMP thing. They hint very obviously that it was something else that caused the power to go out and not just an EMP.

I thought it was decent, definitely has some potential at least. I'll watch to see if it goes anywhere...

This is admittedly a down side to not having cable or sat. I buy shows that I want to watch through iTunes. Most shows are no brainers and/or I already know them from previous seasons. But shows like this one that piques my interest but has just a few too many negative marks makes it a tough choice to sink $20-30 for a whole season.

Why buy when you can go to NBC.com and watch the episodes on your computer?

I agreee with some problems already mentioned here:
1. Someone couldnt figure out how to wrap copper pass it by a mangnet and create a electricty? Heck plug in a lemon or potato get a simple digital clock.
2. Why is it when the power goes poeple revert to "renaissance" time and music?

I also found it weird in the flashabck to the night the power went out that one guy had to show credentials to get on base and the "Sgt" just had to show his tat.
