Looks like Duncan and Moshe decided to sell it off.
I normally don't cross-link to another gun forum, as I consider it bad form. But in this case it might be appropriate as many members here travel back and forth with our NCGO neighbors, and this should answer any questions.

I didn't even know that existed. Have always just been on here and Northeast Shooters.

Interesting... I have a feeling Phil is going to have his hands full the next few days.

Funny how he was dodging the questions on where he was pretty hard, them gave up that he was in Toronto where 56% of the antigun Torstar is now the owner?

That seems odd. Wonder if it is like a freedomgroup thing where they are trying to amass as much as they can under one roof?

Is it possible to delete all of one's content there?

Not that I plan to do that, at least not until the new anti gun owners show their true colors

No. The admins would have to do it. If you do it, it only soft deletes and the history of posts are still present.

Haven't really been to that site much. I never liked the layout or look of the site.

Also my favorite thing in that thread

    Is phil a gun owner?
I am not, my wife was but when we moved she left her guns with her folks on long island NY. She goes shooting with her mom when she visits. There are other members of the team who are gun owners and are in a position where they can get out to a range on the regular.

I found that website first and was a member there back when this was CSF. Both sites sucked royally back then. Not to be a dick, but they still seem similar or the same as they did back when this was Carolina Shooters Forum. I hope they bring NCGO up to date because it honestly feels like I stepped back into the 90's internets when I go there, and I really want pretty much any pro-gun oriented site to flourish. I wish them the best but I don't have the time to keep up here much less both sites. I'll stick with you neanderthals here. I can understand how a tiny number of souls have trouble moderating and keeping the design fresh, so maybe this will be a huge positive for them.

Hopefully the transition goes smoother than when vertical scope took over 68forums.com

Legit? The new forum owner isn't a gun owner?

Legit! It is on I think page 4 when he was asked that and that's the response. Supposedly Phil is the admin and will only be there to help with tech questions about the site and such. No clue but I think it's dumb to have a North Carolina based firearms forum ran by a person in another country and doesn't own or have anything to do with guns besides the little stuff his wife has in NY.

So why are all these anti-gun companies buying up gun sites? How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time....

Because they realized they can make money on it... simple as that. You don't need a conspiracy here. It's like actors speaking out against guns and then doing action movies.

I wonder how this will forebode for content. I sorta like the loose rules here in the minefield. With a large company at the helm, I foresee that place going the route of The High Road and other sites that run a tightly moderated ship...which I have grown to absolutely hate in my old age.

I read through the whole thing earlier. Doesn't sound like the new admin (Phil) really wants to be involved with the site as far as content. The mod team is staying in place to handle that.

Guess time will tell. I only visit the NFA subforum over there, so I probably won't notice any change.

I do agree that the 68Forums takeover was quite the fiasco. Sounds like the company that bought NCGO is a subsidiary of the company that bought 68F.

They own Defensive Carry now too. If you are over there, the password fiasco was because they got hacked. IMO, it's not as busy since they picked it up and forced everyone to change to some ridiculously hard password. I think they also own Archery Talk. They did the same thing there with the PW's.

Please don't ever sell this site to some company like that.

If selling is on the table, I'm sure some of us would be willing to pony up and keep it local.

    I know I would.

We need to start a website buying/managing group to get all these firearm related sites! Probably have to start some new ones too, because they will never sell the ones they purchased unless membership/traffic drops significantly!
Seriously, we need to do this!

This sort of thing has been happening for a LONG time - forums generate lots of traffic, and traffic = $$$
So companies come in and buy it up/out and try to make a buck.
BUT, from what Ive seen on bike and car sites, usually they screw everything up (typically there is a PW issue) and lots of people stop coming around.
Plus, younger folks just arent as interested in forums, so its harder/rarer to get 'new blood' in.

This is just my personal experience on, and OWING, multiple forums.

As far as NCGO, registered, made a couple posts, didnt really feel good on the site, didnt have a good vibe to me.
    Best of luck to them.

    Guys,

    National sites can make $$$

CSC does generate some funds but both owners still have full time jobs.

    Think on that.

The data to mine is worth more then most things.

Precisely why I said that. CSC is growing and reaching a fair portion of the Southeast.

With Ownership working full time jobs, families could very well play a big role in a change of ownership scenario.

Vertical Scope brings the hosting in house and centralizes management.
Then (like clockwork), they experience a "hack" and all the usernames, info and passwords are compromised. That data has got to be valuable to someone.

I can't deny, I am very disappointed this great site was sold to VS.

Funny. It wasn't offered to any of us that have moderated this site for free for years.
