Need help: newbie to bows

1905 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  bowman9687
So a friend of mine was given a compound bow, he has a bad shoulder and couldn't pull it back, so he gave it to me. I have never shot a bow until today, and I have no idea what I am doing. I dod shot the bow five times with some target arrows, but I need some knowledge on how to properly shoot it and maintain it.

My question is, where in the Winston Salem area is a good place to take my bow to have the condition checked and answer some of my questions?

Buttermilk Creek Outfitters in Burlington (about 30 min) or a little further to Mace Sports in Mebane (where I go, but about 45 min from you). Both are very good and knowledgeable. Both will get your bow tuned to where it needs to be for you. Both are patient and will take plenty of time to spend with you to get you right.

I echo Drop Tine. They have a really good range and can be very helpful.
Congratulations.
Glad you've been given the opportunity to pull a string.
Take your time, learn about your equipment and respect it.
Hopefully you'll be afield soon, maybe by next season, and get a chance at a whitetail.
I'll be looking for your post next fall of your first success!

Maybe not your goal, but you can always assist in nuisance species control.
Non-indigenous species compete for habit with the native species and are often selected quarry for controlled hunts by Game departments.
Chincoteague National Refuge on Eastern shore of VA.
They taste absolutely fabulous! Elk meat!
