Under Obama and because of Obama race relations in America have suffered greatly over the last 8 years.

In my lifetime I do not recall a time when racial tension has ever been as high as it is now. I'm 35.

Wait, so he wins twice and some old white hag loses and we are still racists? STFU.

    there are 2 races...

Murican and NOT Murican... that is it

doesnt matter what color you are...

there is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, in fact you should be proud of your heritage... but if you love this country you are Murican! act like an Murican and treat others as you would want them to treat you... if you dont, get out....

    that is all

I think there is a strong argument to be made that he won because we are not racist and the republicans sent 2 milk toast candidates against him that no one was energized about.

Because like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton that is the only way for him to have any relevance . He appeals to those who use that as an excuse for their failures. If the Country is racist you can't succeed so don't try just bitch.

Look at all his cabinet picks, judicial and other appointments, issues that he's taken a stance on, etc. Every single one of them reeks of him being a big a big time racist, but it's given a pass because he's a mulatto.

You might just be on to something here: "He appeals to those who use that as an excuse for their failures."

He has done more to deepen the racial divide than any President in my lifetime.
Personally I don't judge people by skin color, I do however judge them on what's under the skin....

So then you believe racial tensions today are at a higher level then they were in the 40s, 50s and 60s? Very interesting perspective.

You're absolutely right. There is a great deal more acrimony now (on both sides) between the races since O came to power. I think he was greatly influenced in his actions by individuals such as dohrn and Ayers and others like that and you're intelligent enough to know that.

I've read some tone deaf stuff on the internet but this is right near the top. I wasn't alive in the decades I mentioned, but my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents were and their perspectives along with a decent understanding of racial violence, Jim Crow, etc. leads me to believe you are being a prisoner of the moment.

He was alive then, and you weren't. His opinion is somehow invalid because it doesn't square with the one passed down to you, is what I'm hearing.

and understand this, I'm not saying you're wrong about the past, but the man is entitled to his opinion, and if anyone doesn't agree that Obama hasn't set us back in racial tension then I'd say that person is tone deaf in orders of magnitude beyond Bude.

"Under current law, people from the Middle East are considered white, the legacy of century-old court rulings in which Syrian Americans argued that they should not be considered Asian — because that designation would deny them citizenship under the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. But scholars and community leaders say more and more people with their roots in the Middle East find themselves caught between white, black and Asian classifications that don't fully reflect their identities."

Learned something new. I think it is a good plan for Middle Easterns to have a classification.

I'm going to disagree. President Obama didn't create the racial tension in this country because racism was here before his term, during his term, and will be here after his term. Welcome to Murica!

I worked out of newark, n.j. during the riots that many feel were started by outside govt influence. (Perhaps to have an excuse to get rid of the mob influence in the running of the city back then? It appears to my mind that whenever the races begin to meld and work together the govt or other outside influences appear to stir the racial pot bullshit. It seems that those in power work hard to get the average citizen s attention directed away from what the government is doing that does or are attempting to do in the future that will harm what we the people worked so hard to create.

And yes, they experienced it. That's a far cry from those born in the eighties and claiming racism every time they get some type of rejection. It wouldn't be the first time I heard an 80yo look at a punk and say "you think you know what racism is?"

You have used the word "systemic" in describing racial issues. - Back then, yes, it was systemic, now it is utterly fabricated. Not to say bigotry and prejudice do not exist, but it certainly does not to the extent that it is addressed. If you want to get over something, then get over it. While the rest of us are trying to move on, others keep dragging us back into the gutter.

I could go into the history of the Irish in this country but since I'm white I don't think you would find it relevant to race relations.

How about these guys? Sounds like they just want to move forward and improve things - notice the "journalist" keep dragging things back to race, womanizing, bigotry

This must be said in light of some of the comments made.
America is the greatest nation on the planet, always has been, always will be. Nothing is perfect including everyone reading this.
The sooner we get over ourselves, the sooner we can come together and make it even stronger.
Live in the past or strive for a better future, its all up to you.

I read his post, and maybe you are ignoring my point. The racial tension was always there. Blaming President Obama for racist pricks or racial tension is a convenient excuse to redirect blame.
