Prophetic On this day in 1787, an author writing under the pseudonym “Brutus” writes his fifth contribution to the anti-Federalist Papers. These papers argued against the new Constitution, then being considered for ratification by the states. Brutus is worried about Congress’s power to “lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises” in order to “provide for the common defence, and general welfare of the United States.” And he thinks this power becomes even more worrisome when considered in conjunction with a second provision, granting Congress power to “make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution” this taxing power... http://www.taraross.com/2015/12/the-anti-federalist-papers-brutus-v/
So everything is going as designed, just there were a few people who wanted a different form of government. They were overruled. Get over it.
Wow. So I guess if someone wants to apply the lessons of history and actually think about things, that it's really an exercise in futility and they should just "get over it"
Yep, just as I would when someone who wanted another Monarchy comes back and says "See, I told you". I'm sure there were a couple off folks who were advocating for a Communist society then too.
Too true, now pay your sugary drink tax, cow far tax, projectile lead tax, gun smoke tax, body mass index tax, etc
Y'all just need to lay off jrgreen.....heck, had he been alive in 1775, he'd be right in the thick of the argument over The Cause against the Crown....
The thread is saying that the founding fathers were wrong. So let me get this straight, because I believe in the Constitution that somehow makes me a British sympathizer? Any other ridiculous theories you want to float?
The Antifederalists were "the Founders" too there guy.... You're only the British sympathizer then that you're the State sympathizer/apologist now.
