Disclaimer. This is not a cop bashing thread.

Got ANOTHER call just now, at home. 828 area code. WNC. Maybe it's "spoofed".

It's my limited understanding that fundraisers likely keep the lion's share of whatever they can collect to "support" NC State Troopers. I could be wrong.

Is it just me, or does it seem like somewhat of an intimidating tactic to use the name of the NCHP to ask people to contribute to this fund that allows troopers to buy some of the same insurance I pay for out of my pocket, and whatever other programs he was going on about.

Again, I'm not bashing LEOs.

I just wish they wouldn't let paid fundraisers use their name willy nilly to dredge cash out of taxpayer's pockets.

They get to keep 90% of what they collect....... I just tell any fundraiser, collector, beggar, etc. that I don't give money away on the phone.

I was in a MA State Firefighters association and one year they contracted a paid fundraising group to solicit for us. They took 75% of the money raised. They were also the most pushy people I ever had call me and the most dishonest. Flat out would not identify the group despite me asking very pointed questions about which group they were soliciting for. Just kept saying your local FF association. Of course, I knew it was not our local assn as I was the secretary of the local FF association and we didn't fundraise that way.

Several years ago they called me and I questioned the guy about what percentage went to the NCHP. He tried to avoid my question and I reminded him that he had to disclose it. At that time it was 12%. I told him that was pathetic and hung up on him.

What's sad is that these groups keep 70-90% and yet they still raise enough money that they are worthwhile to use. Tells you something about how much they raise overall!

Parents got one a couple weeks ago. From a 252 area code I think. I kept the number. If they call again, I'll call the Troopers Assoc. and see what they say
Got the same one at the house.

Also have had what i am pretty sure was a scammer call twice. Claiming to be from "windows support" about a so called problem my computer was reporting. Then asked if in was near a computer. Not a specific computer, I played along to see what he wanted till the point he wanted me to open a command prompt and run something. Needless to say at that point i told him I was not going to run his request and he hung up.

The State health plan is not anywhere near the Cadillac that the media likes to make it out to be. It is so best a Bronze level plan and the cost for depends to is outrageous.

No, It's the cheapest one they could find.

I make it a rule to never donate over the phone to any organization. You have no way to know where the money goes or who you are giving your credit card number to.
