I've been thinking about a Shield for carry. A member suggested I look at the Performance Center Shield. I spent some time looking at the reviews and comparisons. Here are my thoughts and questions.

Price difference is now about $80 for the guns on sale locally.
I don't think I want the safety, and the PC gun doesn't come without it. I suppose you can just ignore it?
Porting seems neat enough, but I'm not really sure I want it.
I guess the Apex trigger upgrade + ram + new sights would cost way more than $80. Reviews of the PC gun trigger suggest it's quite a bit better than the original, with better reset. The Apex + ram gives you the better reset and as good as or better than the PC trigger?

Just beware what that ported barrel will do to your night vision the first time you fire it in the dark. I have a G23C, and although it's fun to see that "fire V" coming off the top of the pistol on the range, it sucks for "low light" use...at least after the first round.

As much as I like the Shield (and that is a LOT) I passed on the PC one and it was because of the night vision comments, which were the first big reaction everyone had when it first came out. I've never shot the 40 cal version though so I image if you're shooting 155gr or 165gr self defense loads, it could come in handy but with a 9mm? Nah. Also, I don't have a problem with the stock trigger but I have a later model. I like the safety and yes, you can ignore it but on a striker fired pistol with a relatively light pull, I wouldn't be without it for any type of unconventional carry (IWB, belly band, pocket, glovebox).

I've decided against the PC model. Now the decision is safety or no safety. I have just one gun with a safety, a P-64, which the Shield will replace as an EDC. I usually leave the safety off the P-64, as it takes either two hands or a perfect thumb position to take the damned thing off. I understand BP's comment above, but since I don't have guns with safeties now, why confuse the issue?

I don't even understand the purpose of the PC Shields. You already have a short barrel, why drill some holes in it? I owned some Shields but I wasn't a fan of the short barrel and traded them away (albeit for guns with slightly larger barrels ).

I decided on the original Shield, but went a package that includes factory night sights and an extra mag. Thanks for all the replies.

I went with the no safety model. I could just imagine myself trying to leave the safety off for carry, then under pressure pull the gun thinking "this gun has a safety" and then putting the safety on instead of off.
