    Ill take my score all day. My accuracy was good to excellent at times and my gun handling was clean. My speed will build with practice. I also need to pick up a mag pouch. My east german surplus pouch was sloooooooow but it was cheap. Ha!!!!

    Cool. First time I've seen the Heavy-metal category used, makes me feel not-quite so bad with my score.

    I def had a great time, esp since it was my first time. The only critique that I would have is set up a scoring system in writing so everyone knows how its going to work. There was some confusion on how many points a miss counted as and how many for hitting a no shoot. I was thinking just use IDPA rules since there is already a rulebook written and a lot of people already know how that scoring system or points system works. Either way, thanks everyone for a great match!!!

    Who was your RO? How were you scored? Scoring was explained before the match.

    USPSA Targets...
    2 shots each
    Best 2 shots scored

    A & Head = 0 seconds
    C = +1 seconds
    D = +2 seconds
    Miss = +5 seconds
    No shoots = +25 seconds
    Black areas on targets represent hard cover and count as a miss.
    Shoot the stage clean = -10 second bonus

    I doubt if we will ever use IDPA scoring. They emphasis speed but not accuracy. Even two people who were in the beginning of IDPA don't like the scoring. Both Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn think the scoring should be tilted more to accuracy than speed. They feel that accuracy is more important than speed in real life situations. They don't believe in spray and pray.

    We have used the USPSA/IPSC Target. We score all head shoots a 0. The A zone (center mass body) is 0, C zone is -1 second, and D zone is -2 seconds. A complete miss of the target and hits on hard cover are -5 seconds for each miss. Shooting a non threat/hostage is -25 seconds. If you shoot through a non threat/hostage and score on the threat you are scored for the hit on the non threat and nothing for the hit on the threat.

    I read IDPA rules and they are confusing. Plus they use two different ways to count the scores. In their matches they use a statistician to figure out the scores. When we started the Tactical Match we made the scoring simple so it could be tallied as the stage was shot. Also we decided to emphasis accuracy. IDPA only assigns -5 seconds for a target miss, and -5 seconds for a non-threat/hostage. Also if you shot through a non threat and hit the threat you get the score on the threat target. We believe that you are accountable for every round you send down range. That is why we assign greater penalties for misses and hitting non threats.

    Procedural penalties for not following the rules is -10 seconds for each instance. If those same procedural penalties keep occuring from the same shooter in the match, they will be disqualified. Anyone who breaks a safety run will also be disqualified.

    In future matches we will start posting the scoring system and as the ROs to explain them to their squads before the match begins.

    I like the current scoring system. Simple and makes you be accurate.

    it wasnt as much a complaint about the scoring system as it was the confusion about it. at least thats what i read. but to be fair we had some new volunteer RO's so a little confusion could be expected.

    Here's the difference between a clean stage and a not-so-great stage:
    View attachment 4486
    This was presumably one of Andy S.'s shots from squad 2 on stage 1. He shot 4 out of 5 stages clean, stage 1 being one of them. I noticed this "nick" on the way back from scoring his run. After a few moments of deliberation, it was deemed a no hit (didn't actually cross the perforation). Andy swears he shot to the left of this hostage anyway, so it was likely a missed paster from a previous stage. Either way, it made for a some momentary suspense!

    It was my group and Larry Brown was RO. I scored it how you've got it. There was some confusion on hostage hits and completely missing a target.

    Yep, cause I decided to put music in the video, they block it from mobile, but allow it online. I don't get it.

    Anywho, the .308 mag(s) dump starts at 9:35 if the rest of the video is too boring.

    Interesting, I didn't know that. I'll definitely check it out on a PC when I get a minute.
