My daughters have been after me for a while to take them to shoot one of my pistols. We often go out in the backyard and shoot their High Standard .22s that I got them a while back but they wanted to shoot something a little bigger. Being 11 & 12 I wondered how they would handle the recoil. I guess there's no way better than to take them and see.
I took several pistols to see what they would like but had the CZ-75B in the back of my mind the whole time as the pistol they would be most comfortable with. They started off with their mom's M&P 9mm. While the recoil was manageable they didn't much like the trigger pull. I thought we might revisit that one on another trip. They will grow to like it. Next we went to the CZ-75B. They were much happier with it. Recoil was mild and the trigger is sweet as it was worked before I ever bought it. I thought I would get a little brave and bring out the FNX-45. They seemed to like it as the recoil is very manageable but the large frame was a little hard to handle for their smaller hands and the grip texture is a little aggressive. I asked if either wanted to shoot a 1911 I recently acquired and Faith, my 12 year old, was the only taker of the two. She liked the feel of the gun but wasn't crazy about it after shooting it. She said she much preferred the CZ. So after we went through all the full-size guns I put them each a silhouette target up and let them go 1 magazine each through the CZ-75B, the gun of choice for both. They were probably at 30 rounds each at that point through all the guns combined, and finishing up with around 50+ each. While there were a couple of flyers at 20+ feet, I was very pleased with their results. Most importantly I was pleased with their respect and safety with the guns. I told them before we got there if they didn't hit the first target I would be most happy if we all made it back home to their mom, safely. That we did, and more!
I'm proud of my girls!
I forgot to post one of the goofballs in action. LOL!
