I'm contemplating the purchase of a little bit of land in eastern Chatham County (or southwest Wake county if I win the lottery). Locations as yet not selected. Just starting the process to get a little farther outside of the sprawl.
The one thing that keeps lurking in the back of my mind is my current proximity to the nuke plant at New Hill. I'm 13 miles northeast of the plant now.
It seems that the weather in this part of NC always moves in from the west, and yet when we had fires downeast a few years ago, the smoke made it here from 100 miles away from the east. Go figure.
To stay in the general vicinity of a 12-13 mile radius of the nuke plant, (between Pittsboro vicinity and Jordan Lake which is northwest, west or southwest of the plant) would that have any appreciable impact on the likelihood of fallout in the event of a nuke crisis at the plant?
I guess the simple question is, how much safer would one be by being west of the plant than east, in a 12 mile radius?
