I picked up an already-Bubba'd M44 over 10 years ago from this forum, its a fun novelty gun to shoot (everyone loves the fireball it puts out). It is still in the Monte Carlo stock it was outfitted with when I bought it, and I want to completely change the stock out (likely Archangel). I know I can get a make-shift rail mount that fits in the rear iron sight mount, but those appear to be shit quality (and mine had one, maybe it was just a really cheap version). I don't like the idea of the scope sitting so far forward either, or for that matter adding a rail in the iron sight mount that extends back. I know I can't use the Brass Catcher, since uses the orignal wooden stock and your Mosin has to have the recoil lug in order to use it. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm not opposed to getting a gunsmith to add something custom either, after I change stocks. I'd probably be happier this route, so if anyone can suggest a 'smith close to me that you feel could handle or at least be worth me inquiring, let me know. I am in Mebane, but constantly around Durham and Burlington as well.
TIA
