Was just thinking. If you insure your guns don't you have to give your insurer the name/brand/type and serial number? Wonder if the feds have access to their records. My bet is they do. A safe sounds safer.

You have to get a rider on your insurance if you have over a certain value. If you have to get the rider then you will need to take pictures and serial numbers as well as what they cost. Now I am not sure that all insurance companies require that. But really it is not a bad idea.
If the Gov passes a law and wants to pick your safe up then you can say they were all stole in the line of duty. If you have a CCP or have bought a weapon in NC legally then they will come looking at your house so go a head and protect yourself. Get the insurance and the safe. Didn't you watch "Red Dawn"?

I reread my post and I see that I didn't make it to clear. I took pictures and the serial number and cost of the guns for my own personal use. One, it proves I have them. Two if they are stole I can turn a copy over to the LEO. Three I can turn a copy over to my insurance ageny as well.
As far as the rider I just had to tell them how much coverage I needed. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

in NC insurance companies only cover (under basic homeowners/renters) your guns up to 10% of your total policy amount.

renters is where it will get you. with 15k of coverage if all your guns are stolen/lost to fire you would get a whopping 1500 bucks!!!!

That is why I asked for a rider on my insurance to cover replacement cost. It something all of you should check into. It is the same with Rings or watches. If you got them then you best be sure they are covered. I would hate to see that Rolex at $40,000 gone and nothing to show for it. Maybe one day I can afford one.

Thats why I don't have basic homeowners, or basic car insurance either.

Most people go for the cheapest thing they can get. Its a necessary evil, hopefully will never have to use it but seeing people injured and losing their property to fire over the years, I don't have basic insurance.

Doesn't matter what kind of homeowners, condo or renters policy you have, unless you schedule the item, you will will not be paid what it was worth.
I work in the business.
