I've just started to work up a load for a Remington SPS Tactical in .223-1/9 twist 20"bbl and was wondering what anyone else was running in this same rifle.
Yesterday I tested some 55gr FMJBT and H335 powder. Two loads weren't bad but I think it can do better.
Mag length loads only please....

Thanks.

"Two loads weren't bad but I think it can do better."

Why?
I'd like to get one ragged hole at 100yd.
I got just under 3/8" 3 shot group with 25.5gr of H335 chronied at 3047 ft/sec.
The other was at 1/2" with 25.8gr. chronied at 3220 ft/sec.
The worst were 25.6gr(1-1/2") and 25.7gr(1-5/8").
This was from a bench and bags.

I have been working up some loads for my 5.56 as well. So far I have tried H335, AA2460, Varget, and W748. My best has been three rounds at 100 yards in 5/8 of an inch. That load was 26.0 gr of W748 under a 55 gr M193 (FMJBT). The Hornady 52 gr FMJHP Match over 25.5 of H335 put three rounds just under 1 inch at 100 yards.

These loads are well under the maximum listed in the Lyman 49th edition. As with any loads you should work up to them slowly.

I hope that helps,

Frank

PS: These were done with an S&W M&P 15 with 1X9 and an EOTech sight.

For my bolt guns I've been using a 69 grain sierra matchking HPBT bullet over 19.2 grains of IMR-4198, with great results.
69gr in a 1/9 twist?
I use the Sierras 69gr match in a Rock River 1/8 twist 20"bbl and can get cloverleafs and sometimes one-holers (with a flyer of course :001_rolleyes:)with Varget.

My go to loads are 75gr and 77gr which are a little long for a 1/9 barrel. Try working up loads using 52gr SMK's and 69gr SMK's using H335. My SPS Tactical 223 liked Black Hills 69gr so try working up something along those. Lines.

I don't know exactly how many FPS I'm getting i wish i did 23gr of 4320 was a starting load on the IMR website listed at 2793fps 25.5 grains was max listed at 3100 fps i am happy with the accuracy i got form the 23grs so i haven't messed around with anything higher, Wish i owned a chrony though.

I don't remember who the manuf. is.
I bought them from "dbush" a while back. I was going to use them for plinking in my 16" AR15. They are BTFMJ bullets though.
I was under the impression that a 1/9 twist would do better with a bullet under 62gr but I see there are some using heavier bullets.

My RRA Varmint shooting 69 SBTHP with 24.5gr. or 25.5gr. of Varget does literally one hole at 100yds if I do my part.

What manufacture bullet are you using GTM1 ?
How many FPS are you getting from that load Cocky946?
