My dad has a nice 1903 Springfield he got from there in 79 for $39.

 

We still have one in north Asheville, and there's one in Marion...I get my $10 wrangler jeans (seconds) for work there. Hooded sweats for $5 too on occasion.

 

There's one in Greensboro on HP rd. next to Harbor Freight. No guns or ammo to be found though.

 

there is one in Belmont NC , near Gastonia. you can get some good deals on clothing for sure. i bought a bunch of long sleeve t-shirts to wear to work $5 each

 

There is one in MtOlive and a new one coming to Kinston.I remember Mosins were $39 on sale.M1 carbines $199. M1 Garands $300 Mak 90's $190 British SMLE enfields $69 L1A1 $299 Sweadish Mauser $59 I used to stop on the way to gunshows and pick up rifles to resell at the show for a good profit. I bought them for christmas gifts too.

 

Hickory has one. No guns though. Heck not much of a sporting goods section either. Usually looks like a train wreck, but some cheap stuff.

 

One just opened in Charlotte on Independance Blvd in the old Sports Authority space. I went in for old times sake but virtually no sporting goods except the Barbie rods and giant red and white bobbers......

 

West Jefferson still has a Roses; they stopped selling guns years and years ago though. The last time I was in there I think they had a basic fishing section and maybe some cleaning supplies. I don't even think they had .22 ammo. To be honest the whole store is like a big Dollar General.

 

Several years ago, Roses did go out of business. The assets were eventually purchased by Variety Wholesalers (who run various dollar type stores) out of RTP area primarily for the distribution center in Henderson, NC. They have in recent years opened up some of the old locations as Roses Stores, but the merchandise mix is not what it once was. I spent 13 years working for Roses in the 70's and 80's. Best thing I ever got there was my lovely wife of 21 years so far.

 

I was at the Rose's off highway 70 in Hickory right after they stopped selling firearms. They still rifles in the rack and didn't know they stopped selling. I asked to look at a turkish mauser to which the associate did. When I asked to start the paperwork because I was going to purchase it, then I was informed they didn't sell firearms anymore. I was royally ticked off.

 

There's on in Fuquay-Varina, Durham and Zebulon that I know about. None sell guns though.

 

There is one in Winston off Reynolda, everything is covered in an inch of dust and even the motor oil is out of date.

 

I remember going to the Roses store in High Point and going through about 30 98 Mausers to get the 3 best ones and bought them all for $158.00. Those dayes are long gone. The three Mausers have been turned into three of the finest customs that Tim Carrick ever made. No expence spared and the results were stunning. One in .308, one in 257 Roberts and one in 9x39. Best things in the box.

I think I posted this in another Roses thread a while back, but I've got a nice Underwood M1 carbine that came from Roses for $150. I've also got a mess of French 7.5 x 54 ammo with the Roses stickers on them too. I wish I could turn back the clock and get more ammo and guns at those prices (especially a Garand!) Those were the days....

 

Pretty sure that the one in Burlington is still open. They had guns back when I first moved there in 97.

 

i remember just after i turned 18 and still in high school i bought a mosin nagant for $29 on sale and a nice new norinco sks for $119 at the old lincolnton store. (i got the sks because i couldn't afford the mak90 until the next check for $159) LOL

 

Theres one in zebulon, though I havnt been that way in about 5 years so it may be closed.. I remember they had guns when I was a little kid but dont think so anymore... to bad.

 

I remember going to a Roses when I was a kid, about 10 or 11 years old. They had a big wooden barrel stacked full of mil-surp rifles. I remember seeing Enfields SMLE, Enfield Jungle Rifles with the flash hider on the barrel.

 

I had never heard of them until about a week ago when I drove by one in walkertown, gonna have to go check em out here soon.

 

Per ATF they went of the gun business years ago. I'm surprised their business hasn't ended as well.

The Roses you see today is really a DIFFERENT COMPANY that bought the assets and name. I'll bet there's a lot of other things that are different, now. (I stop in the one near us, now and then, and the mix of products sold has really changed over the past 7-8 years.)

 

We have one in Smithfield. It's pretty run down though. Not even as nice as the Big Lots. I remember going to Roses when I was a kid in Kingsport, TN. There was a great restaurant attached to it called Aunt Emma's or something.

 

The Roses that used to be on Main Street in Forest City had a candy and nut counter where you could buy all sorts of warm, salted peanuts, cashews and other nuts. The candy was like Christmas every day! Chocolate Drops and peppermints, mixed hard candy and anything else you could think of...

They had paper kites, model cars, BBs and caps for the capbuster, about anything a kid could need.

They moved out to what was then the Tri-City mall and I bought 3 very nice firearms from them CHEAP compared to today's prices. I bought a Spanish Mauser for $39.95, a Norinco SKS for $69.95 and a L1A1 for $399.

Those were the days.....
