I think strapped to the outside of your weak side bicep handle down would be appropriate for this particular knife.

If you need a Tanto then you won't likely be happy with this knife, the tip is weak where the Tanto is supposed to be strong. As a general purpose knife the lack of belly will make it a poor cutter even when sharp.

Tacticool guns are one thing, but a tacticool knife is less functional than less tacticool knife, it's just an abomination.

Oh, knife fight you say...bring a gun. A concealed knife will be slower to present, requires far more skill to utilize effectively and is still a lethal weapon so you get no benefit at trial. May or may not be legal on top of everything else.

What would be a good knife to get for this?

Well we all have our biases, but for everyday walking in the woods I really like the puukko, especially H. Roselli, for around camp use and a bit larger I like the Dozier guide knife, and for a bit heavier in a survival knife I like the Fallkniven F1. Easy to get a horizontal sheath for any of these, but retention of a puukko might not be good because of the design.

When I want to show off for knife geeks I usually go for the first gentle men's knife (not first series, first knife) by Kressler.

The danger is more so with a pistol than a knife. As I posted above an OWB Scout configuration has the knife parallel to your belt.

 

I wouldn't personally carry anything right over my spine, but then again I'm more attentive than most I suppose to the dangers of spinal injury.

I can make sheaths from kydex that are adjustable for vertical strongside to vertical weak side to scout to horizontal crossdraw.

Beware though that as noted above, carrying a fixed blade concealed will run you afoul of NC law.

 

LEO are exempted from GS:14-269 prohibitions. I'm kind of assuming from the OP's handle...

Just my opinion, the Gerber brand ain't what it used to be and I would avoid it.

For what you describe I would go on the smaller size. Remember you're carrying it horizontally, overall length matters as that much belt space is what it is taking up.

I've got an ESSE Rat 3 that comes with a kydex sheath. I took the little belt clip off and replaced it with a Tek-Lok so it can be carried horizontal SOB.
