I've been considering this for a while since I'd like to have an AK, but I'd rather get a quality AK w/o breaking the bank. I'd like to do the front end conversion too.

 

I just finished a conversion on both ends. Here is a pic of her:

The total cost for me including the wood Kit was under 200.

I actually have a local gunsmith that did the labor for me for 25 bucks on the conversion. I did not buy a kit as I did the parts separately. One thing to look for is on the front end if you do that part is you will need a new gas tube (try to find one used). Also remember if you want to use AK mags to get the bullet guide and weld it in.

 

I'm really close to getting one if these. Just need to get one of the Saigas from Classic Arms.

Just shop around a bit for what you want. For example, if you think you want a new upper and lower handguard, you will need to buy a lower handguard retainer ($59.00) and a gas tube ($35.00), then buy the handguards you want. Or you can buy the TAPCO Galil for Saiga unit ($54.00) and you don't need an upper handguard.

I recently did a conversion on a Saiga 12 using parts from Carolina Shooter Supply. Great place to deal with. Conversion was real straight forward and worth the time and expense!

I thought the bullet guide was secured with a screw, if it needs welding I may have to find someone to do that. $200 for both front and rear conversion, where did you get the parts?

Best price I am seeing now is at J&G Sales, $300 for the AK, $20.00 shipping, and $25.00 for the transfer at a local dealer.

 

It looks like 30 round AK mags run anyware from $10.00 to $25.00, Bulgarian, Norinco, East Europe? Steel Plastic?

What are your experiences?

 

I got the parts from carolina shooters supply and i had my local gun smith do the conversion, he charged 25 bucks for the labor, he also welded the bullet guide on but you can screw it from what I hear.

 

I used to use a counter sunk machine screw. I weld them now.

 

Would getting one of these rifles be better than say getting a wasr 10/63? im a noob and kinda have the ak bug
