My son and i are getting fingerprints tomorrow. What's the current wait time like?
I got my rejection letter right around 90 days. One print on one card was slightly smudged on one side.
I called the Sheriff's office and they said just come in and they'll take them. Once I sent those in it wasn't too long, maybe a couple weeks.
My wife and son both got theirs in 110 days sent aug 2020
90 days for a rejection? Ouch. We're using identigo electronic method. Getting that today.
Dang... that's a long time!
Classes are full everywhere lots of people applying. Not that SLED was ever fast to begin with
Friends in wi get theirs in 5-7 days. Truely, with electronic data there is no reason to take any longer. It's all "hands off"
Yeah, it's almost like the application sits on a desk somewhere until the last week before the theoretical deadline and they don't even look at it before then.
i have been waiting *two months* for my renewal!
In May of 2020 I applied for my SLED renewal as it was 90 days till my permit was due to expire. I did this online.
I was amazed when I received my renewal in 3 DAYS not the usual 3 months.
That stinks! At least you can keep carrying
Are you sure? I found nothing on my card nor on SLED about a “grace period.” In Mass, one had 90 days after permit expired to carry legally. I have not been carrying and feel “naked.”
Arg! I mailed mine! I did not see the online option. Usually I am good at seeing stuff like that.....damn!
Well.... first MONTH has passed with no magic card in the mail..
It could show up any day. My brother got his four weeks to the day from Identigo submission to his mailbox.
Nutt'n yet ! Checking the mailbox frequently
My renewal went in last week. We'll see how long it takes for that. The post by @CEP27 lends some encouragement.
Well, look on the bright side, they may be slow, but in about 3 months, it will be free....
BTW: SLED only has a few employees processing the CWP applications... Most often, delays come from outside agencies that have trouble with the prints. SLED folks want to move them as fast as they can... But a few ladies banging on keyboards all day long can only move so fast.
Hiring more would cost more (to the State now) and that would mean higher taxes....
They have ALWAYS taken the full 3 months to process the forms. Again, a few ladies can only type so fast!!
Already sent in $. So not free for me.
It shouldn't take any manual data entry. It's a job for computers
Governor McMaster signed "Open Carry with Training" bill a few weeks ago. Allows any SC CWP holder to carry openly. Also removes the $50 application fee. Goes into effect 90 days after he signed it.
What remains to be seen is: Will they force you to use electronic fingerprints from independent agency which currently collects the $50 for the State... If they do, then the 'free' permit is fake... But money won't go to the state.
I suppose they would accept volunteers to computerize the system!! LOL This IS South Carolina, after all.... We're lucky they have electricity in the State House!!
Just posted more details... Law goes into effect August 15... No fee after that day.
oh, it came two weeks ago! so, mid-May.
Still ... no joy in the mailbox....
The answer is 84 days.
CC permission slips are in the mailbox today.
72 days to issue but another five to get postmarked. And a reminder in the approval letter to be sure to apply for renewal at least 60 days prior to expiration. For roughly the same check that is done in less than two minutes if a vigilant officer notices a burned out license plate light.
As to the observation that they only have a few people processing these and they'd have to raise taxes to hire more, I'm not buying that. It wouldn't cost Walmart to hire more cashiers unless it all of a sudden takes longer to check each customer out. The total hours required are fixed. Processing each CWP probably only takes a few minutes total for each. They're charging $50! If it takes 15 minutes total processing time, that's $200/hr! CWP is not a cost center, it's a revenue center.
Until next week. When it becomes solely a cost center, I'm willing to wager that their objections to CC aren't so strong after all. Give it time.
