I have been encountering issues sourcing my standard 223 and 308 powders lately ( Alliant re15 and varget) I was puttering around my local walmart and saw they had 6 cans of CFE 223 for 22 bucks each. The burn rates look to be in the re15 /Varget / Blc 2 range. I mostly shoot 77 grain match kings out of a Mark 18 clone. Anybody have any experience with the stuff or is it cheap and available for a reason?

I like it alot. i shoot 55 gr and 62 gr 223 pills over 25 and 23 gr. Clean, burning and loads a decent amount for 223.

Its a close match to BLC2 which I like also.

It was available because they probably just stocked the shelves. It's good stuff... Works well for .223 and .308 and I'm sure some others. I've got a few pounds of it in reserve if I run out of 2000-MR.

Be careful with CFE 223 it's a tad slower than Varget. I have worked up 2 loads in 308 Win.
    168gr Classic Hunter @ 46.0
    175 Berger OTM @ 44.0
    WW brass
    9.5 Rem primer
Both loads 1/2" loads but if you change brass pressure can rise fast.
I like the cleaning less copper in barrel

Problem with cfe is that the load data required is more than some of the other powders. I was using it exclusively but moved in to ar-comp. Uses way less powder for the same fps

CFE 223 is slower than Varget
IT IS A HIGH ENERGY POWDER
the window is tight with CFE 223 between low/high nodes......so be careful
WW high capacity cases work good and heavier bullets in 308 Win like 168/175
    Very good VEL.

Cfe is OK in opinion. Issue is it is bottom of the list to manufacture rounds so you use for the same amount of finished product.
I was using it exclusively for a while but I started using ar-comp.
Produced more rounds per pound than cfe

I load .308 and 6.5 Grendel with CFE-223, great results with both calibers. It's consistent, and burns clean.
