To respond to a poster about the Pickens Gun Range, here's the link: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/law/rifleranges.html

Just note the days and times of operation are WRONG on the SCDNR website. They are actually, 9am - 6 pm Mon-Sat, except every third Tuesday, as they will be closed. New pistol range setup, with covered stalls, and targets on pully system. No rapid fire, three seconds between shots

Typically, they've got the gates open at around 8:30am but your not allowed to shoot till the posted times.

They have rifle, handgun, and bow targeting available. Targets are hung on chicken wire and cloths pens are free at the check in station, along with foam ear plugs. I always bring cloths pens of my own to help save some money for the state, but that's just me.

Mapquest directions are pretty good to the place.

Be glad you folks didn't come down to the Pickens range today, it was packed! I got there at 9:10am and the skeet range and rifle ranges were already full. The pistol range had one bay open and I took it. It stayed full for 2hrs when I left the pistol range and went to TRY and shoot at the rifle range. Every bay was full with folks sighting all their rifles in for deer season or something.

Hope you all had fun, I know my daughter and I did.

I want to thank the host of the shoot today, My son and I had a great time.
We shot at steel targets at 100 yards, (could have gone over 200 yards)
he's got a real nice setup and very knowledgeable.

    Newshooter, thanks for the invite.

We fired alot of handguns and rifles, Thanks again.

    Thanks to Andy

All thanks go to Andy. He has a great place. Not to mention he is a great guy to shot with.
We got to send a lot of lead down range. Several Autos were used, some target shoting, pistol practise and some plain ole plinking too. A fun day.
Now if we can get mother nature to cool things off a bit we may be able to go again. DAMN- it was hot.
