Site Maintenance Today 1:30 or so

Hey guys... typically we wouldn't do this but due to scheduling conflicts we may shut the forum off for about an hour or so around 1:30 today to upgrade php and mysql. While we have it off run some maintenance scripts to optimize database tables.

This is preparing for testing the new release of vBulletin 5. We are soon beginning the work on a site update and design changes. Hopefully all for the best of the community. Obviously we will not roll these changes into production until everything is perfect. But the first step is performing these upgrades to the database and php.

Sorry for the downtime in the middle of day... but required due to resource availability.

Thanks and if plans change I'll update this thread.

Cheers

it's all good, a downtime to upgrade is a good thing versus downtime because it sucks lol

Morning, gents...

I had an on-screen announcement when I logged on this morning that the site was 'going dark' for database maintenance. Looked exactly like yesterday's announcement.

Plus, I have a PM notification on my phone from 21:35 yesterday, but the PM isn't in my inbox.

Neither creates problems on my end...just thought you might need the info in case you're still working thru the database issues.

ETA: Apologies for the extra info. Chad posted above while I was typing.

Neo and the server folks worked on the issue all night. It was decided that the best way to solve the issue with minimal impact on the members was to restore the site to the backup that was created just before the update. The good news is that everything should be up and working (obviously let us know if not). The bad news is that everything that was posted after 2pm yesterday is gone.

We hate this as much as you guys do (if not more) but unfortunately its the nature of computers to throw you a curve ball once in a while.

Crap - I had an epiphany and posted the solution to all the world's problems last night and now I can't remember it.
Should of made a backup on an etch a sketch.

Actually, I'm not complaining. As a matter of fact, I find this disruption relatively benign compared to the previous site. We seem to be back up solid, sans some missing post.

Good work and thanks to all that worked hard through the night. That used to be the nature of my work, trying to get infrastructure up again before a 7AM contracted availability time.

Morning everyone. Yesterday pretty much sucked. As sore posted we did end up rolling back the changes due to the images issue. After several hours of trying to correct it, we thought this was the best action.

The bad part is that any post after about 1:30 yesterday is gone. So if you listed an item for sale etc, please repost it.

I'm sorry it didn't end up as smooth as it seemed it was going at first. But, from all indications we are back to normal and no errors in the logs.

Let me know if you run into anything that isn't working. We'll check it out.

Thanks and my apologies again.
