Well as deer season approaches and the trigger time on my rifle increases I once again find the desperate need for an improved trigger. I am currently hunting with a Ruger M77 Mark II all weather .300 Win Mag. I love this rifle, and I have been nothing but impressed with it, but find that the trigger pull is much more than I like. Every year I say that I am going to do something to fix it but never do, but this year I am.

I have been thinking about getting a Timney Trigger to install to help bring the trigger pull to 2.5 lbs, but an a little skeptical. After doing a little research I found that there is a substantial amount of filing to install the new assembly and am a little worried that it may be more hassle than I want.

The online instructions say that you have to file around 1/8 inch off in order to the safety to engage, but that over filing will make the rifle inoperable.

I have not found anyone who has actually done this trigger set to give me any feedback, and am looking for a little advice.

Let me know what you guys think I should do, and if anyone has actually installed one of these triggers.

Hey - I have the same problem on my Ruger. So please let us know how it turns out. I've been "considering" the same thing for 10 years now.

I installed a timney sportsmans trigger about 8 or 9 years ago. Set down to 2lbs and breaks like glass ,no over trvel. It scared the heck out of a hunting buddy at the range years ago. Cold weather hunting and gloves i just don't put my finger near the trigger until i am ready to shoot. But i love that trigger and not change it.

I like and have several Timneys on rifles that required them. A good gunsmith can help you Ruger trigger, it would still be factory, and for less than youll pay for the trigger, and having Timney fit it for you.I am not putting the Timney, down, just letting you know, you have another option.

Well after a little debate and talking with some guys who know there stuff I decided to have a gunsmith do the work on the gun. The though of messing something up pushed me away. I have decided to take my rifle to Weaponologist to have the trigger worked. Hope he does a good job! Going in blind on this one. Ill let you guys know how is work is! Lets hope this trigger job comes out making this rifle shoot amazing!

Weaponologist if your work is well, I can promise to have many more people your way!

Well I went and picked my rifle up today from Weaponologist. He definitely wasn't messing around when he said he could fix a trigger. My rifle was at 4lbs prior to any work being done, and felt horrible. It is now at a whopping 2lbs and breaks like glass. Billy does amazing work, and if you guys are looking at getting something done you CANT beat his price. Professional work and your trigger will end up better than a timney any day! Oh and did I mention that it is half the price of a timney trigger!
