How much does it pay, and can I wear a parachute?

I read backwoods post and thought, it cant be that bad..... then I watched the video... Yea, not sure that's something my nerves could handle, a 2x2 platform 1700 fit up just doesn't seem like the ideal place for me to stand. I've always thought tower climbing might but not too sure after watching that lol.

I would never be able to step out of the elevator.
Lol you and me both

my nerves couldn't handle finishing the video
I about had to stop lol

I've been doing that kind of work for 30 years....
Since I was 14 working for my dad, now own my own company, but don't climb much anymore...
Too old and fat. I have a top notch crew, though. They been begging for a GoPro...

wal mart sells a pretty good go pro type camera by midland for a 1/3 of the cost of a gopro .

Here you go...
the view out to the ocean from atop WKOO in Holly Ridge/Hampstead, and one looking down. That one's only a grand to the top.

And a few more pics...

I'm game :)
To me that would just be the other end of cave diving, and I do that.
That would be cave diving for me, cause I guarantee I would crawl back down through my butt hole and be inside out at the bottom.

My vote is you should get them something. As guy wrenching that video was, it was still awesome

Wow - that brought back some memories. It's been almost 20 years since I climbed a tower more than 100' tall; most of the old photo's are in a box in the basement somewhere, but here are a couple from back then.

This is me 400' up a new cell tower that we were building outside of Tallahasee, FL back in 1990. We had topped out the tower and were building the cell platform. The tower section on the left side of the photo is the gin pole that we used to construct the tower.

Here is a photo that I took almost 1,900' feet up a 2000' broadcast tower in White Lake NC; also from 1990 (August as I recall).

I'll say one thing... you've never partied until you've partied with a tower crew! Some of these guys are totally nuts! The best thing about working on the road was that if you were frugal, you could live off of your per diem and bank your entire paycheck. It was a good way to save up cash if you were disciplined.

The 2k in White Lake is no more....
8 pounds of strategically placed Thermite.....
on the dirt....
was the tallest structure east of the Mississippi for nearly 30 years. It was built in 1969. I was on it many times. It should have been dropped 15 years earlier. There were holes rusted in the legs that my fist would barely cover. WECT spent 100K in repairs back in '04. Then digital TV came along and the old Kline dinosaur was cast into obsolescence.

And yeah, not very many can party like roughneck riggers!!

And, not many can do it. I have hired ex-everythings and even rock climbers and a former Navy SEAL.....
VERY few make it past a couple of weeks. Yeah, gettin' shot at and IED's blowin' up and all that....
y'all can have that s**t...
Tower work is in my blood. It takes a special kind just like everything else.... we just get labeled "crazy".

I'm okay with that....
