Still Waiting

With no offense intended to the abolitionists, but on May 5th, the citizens of Pilot Mountain voted two to one for liquor by the drink and the establishment of an ABC Store. Before the vote, the local preachers papered town hall with bus loads of citizens (from outside Pilot Mountain) protesting loudly that the Town Council would even consider vote on a a referendum. These same preachers warned of the Wrath of the Lord. We're still waiting for the fire and brimstone. I guess Andy and Barney don't live here anymore.

Whats gets me about the anti's (alcohol, not the other ones) is that they seem to know whats best for me, I guess I'll turn into a raving drunk if Asheboro gets alcohol. :*)

They also don't seem to mind blatantly breaking the law when it suits them i.e. the the big crane banner on Dixie drive. I was really hoping the pro group would erect a BIGGER sign nearby. Then we'd have heard the anti's screaming.

I have the list of the anti donators, believe me I will be taking names in Randleman/Liberty if this doesn't pass and I see one of them out buying wine/beer in the future. :D

Along hose lines I posted this back on May 30th in another Asheboro alcohol thread -

"Back in the 1994 vote an owner of a very popular pizza chain in Asheboro went on TV to speak out against the evils of alcohol. Then a short time later he closed his place and had his class reunion there. Guess what...They had hard liquor and beer served there!

Hypocrisy = Asheboro's high and mighty."

A lot of the people that are on the NO side sure don't mind the short drive up to Randleman to purchase the Devil's Brew.

I have no idea of what is happening in your guys area. But in South Alabama when a county wanted to vote on allowing alcohol in a dry county- we heard all the same things from the local churches. Problem was, all the deacons and church leaders would lose their bootlegging business and their financial interest in "out of county" alchol businesses if the county went wet. Follow the money.

One way or the other, I'm glad it's over. I work at the board of elections and it's been one hell of a ride for the past month or so. I haven't even had a chance to shoot since it all started.

I can't wait to see how fast Chili's or Rockola can get the bar stocked and flowing.

okay folks, two locations have temporary permits in place already. Rockola is one. J&S Independent Gas (north of town, near spero rd) has the off premises stuff covered.

So, effectively, we could have beer tonight if the state board of elections / NCABC commission gets all of their ducks in a row.

I just wish the service at Rockola wasn't so bad. I've been in there twice and swore I'd never go back. Which is surprising because all things being equal, the service I've gotten in Asheboro beats the service in GSO every time.

Guess I'll wait for GP to get his permits...
