I have heard from 2 seperate Wal-Mart employees at 2 different Wal-Marts now, that all stores in SC with exception to the spartenburg super at I-85 and I-26 and the Greer store will no longer sell firearms.

Would not surprise me... They pulled everything from the Florida stores around me after Katrina never to return. First excuise was that they have been asked to pull them before the hurricane and get them secure. See we had 4 hurricanes in a matter of 2 years in my immediate area. The 1st hurricane each year was followed by a second hurricane 2 weeks later. Think of what we all thought after the 2nd year!!! The "Second Yearly" hurricane also fell on the SAME DAY as the year before, I know my wife and I slept underneath my desk at the office while my kid slept on top during our anaverseary 2 years in a row!

Well the guns never returned...after some time they said they were waiting for stock to come back, then they said the next hurricane was coming...then they just said we are no longer carrying them.

Yep...they all did at one time surprised you never noticed them. I remember as a kid going to the mall and breaking away from my parents when they were shopping. They would go and shop in Sears, JC Penny and Service Merchandise (Kind of a cross between Best Buy and Wallmart without the food) and they would know where to find me, at the Gun Counter. :p

Service Merchandise was to ammo back then as Wallmart has been to us. Always had a good stock of ammo at great prices, the gun counter was a bit larger than Wallyworld and some stores actually carried pistols. I think Sears and JC Penny just carried long arms but they had ammo too.

Point is that a lot of stores sold guns and ammo even at venues like a shopping mall. I am only 40 years old and have seen American politics just tear down our our rights and image. If 32 years ago it was perfectly fine to sell such items at large mall's and stores it should still be so. The stores have not changed, the items have not changed just some people, and they are punishing everyone just for some bad apples since it's too much work and too expensive to punish the bad apples.

I had always heard it was a store-by-store choice by the store manager if it was most "profitable" use of the floor space. Don't get me wrong, I'd love every walmart to sale firearms (all of ours do), but when I buy a gun there it typically ties up a sales associate for 10-15 minutes by the time they get the rifle and box out of the back, then 15 minutes waiting for the manager to show up to walk you out of the store, etc. Not sure how much they make on the Savage MKII bolt for $117, but I imagine not much, then the high labor cost for the transaction, I could see if they needed the floor space. And also on the flip side if only one area walmart sold guns, I wouldn't mind driving there to buy, so they wouldn't even loose my business. They would loose other business from me, would be stoping in Target much more often to avoid the Gville GettoMart if didn't want to spy for ammo.

Wal-Mart has only allowed top selling stores within each district to sell firearms, and has been doing this for the past couple of years.

However, here's some new Wally-World news, and this is exclusive. I won't say "exactly" what they are going to be doing differently, but folks that are hoarding it or that are buying large quantities to resale are going to be pissed starting tomorrow.

I remember a Kroger store (yes a grocery store) that had a gun counter in Fayettville when I was growing up.

Not that it would matter much...I guess I am happy but not really. I have not been able to catch one single box of Federal Bulk or any other bulk .22 there since January or December.

All that will happen is the dealers will send 2-3 people there a day instead of just one. 3 box limit ? Per Day ? If the limit does do any good then those 2-3 people can show up at each change of shift and do the buy. I don't think it will help much.

Now that I am showing up every morning or every other morning checking for that ever elusive Bulk box that also ticks me off. After so much effort I was going to buy a bunch of bulk packs to make up for it once and for all and not have to worry going back for another few months. I guess I'll just have my wife, friend and I go then...

The point is that the 3 box limit most probably will do no good except keep ammo on the shelf for the day instead of just till 8-9am whenever the manager shows up that is allowed to open the sports register.

The local Wally world offa Cone stopped selling all of that when there was a shooting across the street. The neighborhood is kinda rough and the manager decided to pull it.

Course that really works out well for the senior citizens trying to protect themselves, now they have to pay higher prices for ammo.

AND it hasn't done a thing to lower crime in the area, for some reason the gangbangers don't mind shopping elsewhere.

It's 6... I am in the parking lot now. The way it reads it's 6 ITEMS PER CUSTOMER!! I just talked to the dept manager and he stated he spoke to the store manager. It's not going to be enforced as we understand it since I can buy however much of one thing and another however much of 9 other things I want.

Whomever wrote the company policy was not really thinking. He understands what they intended to do and when he saw it yesterday brought it up but they decided since THAT is the policy that's the way they have to enforce it. Can't blame him really but maybe someone will find out.

He also agreed that it's going to be tough to enforce since someone can come at shift change anyway and buy again after the other employee has left.

Heck, I was in Wally World last night and didn't see ANY ammo. But then again, their tearing apart the one (of two stores in my area) I visited last night and moving everything around. They may have just repositioned the ammo for safe keeping, as the hunting and outdoor section was completely moved.

You're about 6 weeks late to the party...

Different WalMarts started doing this a month + ago; I know bnizzel2000 hits the same one(s) that I do, and the Hanes Mall location put the 6 box limit into effect this week, but the University Pkwy location has had a 3 box limit in effect for a month +. The Kernersville location has a 6 "item" limit, also. The Wendover Walmart might have a limit but it doesn't matter because their allocation of ammo is around 1/12th of what Kernersville's is, for some reason (They don't sell guns?).

I'm a Walmart whore, but not a hoarder, and these changes have been talked about here for some time now.

bc they are putting a 3 box limit on all ammo. :D
I was told it was a 6 box limit per caliber. And this comes from an employee that I know "very well", so I know it's credible. Maybe different stores a planning on decreasing the limit?
