.22 Long isn't quite so easy to find in stores any more. And if all he's needing is a hundred or so rounds, it won't break his bank to pick up a box or two this way to serve his immediate needs. He can keep shopping around for cheaper local sources for more, if he wants.
From November 2014-July 2015 (When we stopped looking) Gander Mountain in Winston-Salem was getting it almost every Thursday. Panda would pick some up for some family and friends that do that gallery/cowboy whatever shooting that uses the stuff. I never could get in that 100+ year old stuff, I'd feel guilty shooting a gun that old.
I found some Saturday at a pawn shop. Thanks for checking and the offer but I am good for now!
