Took a while, but I finally made the decision to undergo a total knee replacement (TKR) on my left knee. Went in Tuesday afternoon and was discharged a few hours ago. What really caught me off guard was how much pain there is when the nerve blocks wore off . . . WOW!!!!!! Even though you are kept fairly drugged up, there ain't no way to block it all. That first day post op was pure agony. I know I made the right decision, sure didn't feel like it then. Anyone one else here been thru one? Would like to know how you dealt with it (they sent me home oxycodone, a muscle relaxant and a blood thinner).
I had major shoulder surgery last December ( bone taken out, new cartilage, rotator disk repaired, and my ac joint pinned.). OMG THE PAIN, bone pain is the worst. They sent me home on a iv drip that was in my neck and when it came out on the third day I wanted to pass out. I spent years in misery but after everything healed up from the surgery I haven't had any more pain. It took about two months to get back to work fully. Keep the pain pills close by and sleep in the recliner is my only advice.
