I have a couple AR receivers laying around that I'd like to build out. I've got a notion to build one as a dedicated target rifle - longish heavy barrel, fancy stock, etc.

  • What caliber would you focus on for a build like this? And what specific barrel?
  • I reload; commercial ammo availability isn't an issue so long as components are around.
  • Or....should I try trading receivers to an AR-10 platform and build something a little heavier?
  • I already have a "precision" bolt gun in .308

That's one of the hot shot 6's I was referring to. I know you shoot some comps, seeing many of them? Berger has such a high demand for 6mm bullets these days I can't even get jackets to make my own.
No. I know someone looking at one, but no one using one. I see a few people shooting 6mm bolt guns.

I think all of these are fun calibers.

I would build a A4 National Match rifle to shoot service rifle with.

Personally every gun I own serves a need, a NM rifle would allow you to shoot high power and service rifle, the training from these matches will roll over to 3-gun, long range and other rifle sports.
