What firearms did the marathon bombers have?

Figured it might be useful to have a thread where we try to cobble together all the info relevant to the firearms the Tsarnaev brothers had in their possession and how they were acquired.

I'm assuming they started the Thursday night chase sequence with at least one handgun, given the shooting of MIT campus police officer Sean Collier.

Tamerlan's record indicates an episode of domestic violence in 2009. So he could not have legally acquired a firearm after that incident. And Dzhokhar was 19, so he was too young to legally acquire a handgun (though perhaps he could still legally acquire a long gun in MA?).

It's possible they took any long arm from Collier's patrol car. Which raises the question of whether MIT campus police officers have a shotgun or rifle in their patrol cars. During the sequence of events Thursday night/Friday morning, there was a report of firearms missing from a LEO vehicle - any links to this?

Which brings us to the shootout where Tamerlan was apprehended. From released audio of the shootout, one of the officers is heard shouting 'rifle', so presumably the brothers had a long arm at that point. Presumably this exchange of gunfire (or the chase leading up to it), is when MBTA officer Richard Donohue was shot. I haven't seen anything to indicate whether he was shot with a handgun or a rifle. Also, it is possible that he was hit with friendly fire considering the scene - nighttime, lots of officers, adrenalin, confusion, etc.

Any reports as to firearms recovered at the scene of Tamerlan's apprehension, or firearms recovered from the boat during Dzhokhar's apprehension?

As far as explosives, in the aftermath, I've seen reports they had 6 pipebombs (along with whatever explosive Tamerlan had strapped to his chest). I'm not sure if this is what they were captured with, or if this is the totality of the explosives they had/used that night. During the chase, the media/scanner reports sure made it seem like they had dozens of explosives including grenades. Could just be the fog of misinformation that is common early on.

My hunch is these two did not have any black rifles. If they did, the media would have been screaming about it.

UPDATE: Turns out the only firearm they had was one Ruger 9mm pistol. Obtained illegally. Serial number obliterated. No rifle. The gun grabbers are disappointed, but will try to spin this to their advantage, facts be damned.

Just found this:

Just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the pair walked up to a parked police car at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where Sean Collier, a 26-year-old campus officer, was nearing the end of his 3-to-11 p.m. shift.

A security camera would later show two men approaching the car and speaking to the officer. Abruptly, one of the men was seen pulling a gun and shooting Collier multiple times, including once in the head. Some officers concluded that the shooting was an effort to provoke a larger confrontation with police.

"They were looking to start something," one official said.

More info:

According to WBZ-TV Chief Correspondent Joe Shortsleeve, the brothers ambushed Collier, shot him five or six times and once in the head. Collier never drew his weapon. His gun was found in his holster. Five 9 mm shells were found at the scene. It is unclear what led up to the shooting.

So they probably used a 9mm pistol (unless they had a 9mm carbine). They didn't take Collier's service pistol, which makes me think it unlikely they searched the vehicle for a long gun.

Boston bombing suspects did not rob 7-Eleven

Margaret Chabris, the director of corporate communication at 7- Eleven, says the surveillance video of the crime was not taken at a 7-Eleven and that the suspect that did rob the 7-Eleven does not look like Tamerlan or Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

"The suspect in the photos for that particular 7-Eleven robbery looks nothing like the suspects," Chabris says. "The police or someone made a mistake. Someone was confused."

The suspects were at the 7-Eleven around the time of the robbery but they did not rob the store said, State Police Superintendent Timothy Alban at an evening press conference on Friday.

This worries me because this leaves the door wide open for MANY things.

Some info on firearms recovered:

Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle - a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan - on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass., 10 miles west of Boston.

Two handguns and a BB gun that the authorities believe the brothers used in an earlier shootout with officers in Watertown were also recovered, said one official briefed on the investigation. The authorities said they believe the suspects had fired roughly 80 rounds in that shootout, in which Tamerlan Tsarnaev was fatally wounded, the official said.

No idea if this is a real M4 or just a M4gery.

A BB gun was used in a shootout?

How's that workin' out for you, Tamer?
they thought if they can't see they can't shoot back

Since this is an ongoing investigation information is going to be limited. You will probably never get every detail about this incident though the media. A lot will be withheld until after the trial.

Wow, this guy is an idiot for not taking cover but he got some pretty good pics! I don't see a long gun, but of course that does not mean they didn't have one.

Officials: Boston suspect had no firearm when barrage of bullets hit hiding place

No guns on the boat. So I guess the younger brother didn't shoot himself in the neck.

Even more interesting:
A criminal complaint filed in federal court in Massachusetts on Monday to support charges against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev said police recovered a single firearm and half a dozen explosives and homemade bombs from the scene of the shootout.

We know they used a 9mm firearm (presumably a handgun) to kill Officer Collier. So court filing makes it seem that the 9mm handgun was the only firearm in their possession. No rifle?
