An SJ grand prix is one on my bucket list for sure. They were very cool - big block 428, cool bucket seats, sophisticated looks, etc.

The SJ Grand Prix had a 455. Loved the car, wish I still had it.

If memory serves me correctly (and I am old), the SJ premiered in '69 with the 428, high threes in horsepower. The 455 wasn't available until the '70 model. Think it was a De Lorean rework of the Tempest, bit stretched to make the "G-body"?

You are correct on all accounts. The 428 had 390 hp in 1969. DeLorean did design the GP. In 1971 the 455 had a reported 370 hp and ran very strong. I still remember the firing order, 18436572.

Ah yes. The SRL-311. I had two, a silver one fitted up like yours but with the big sump and the oil cooler. The yellow one was stock. I worked for a Datsun dealer at the time and the parts guy let me order what I wanted and I paid 1969 prices. The carbs were genuine Solexes from junked Benzes. I rebuilt and re-jetted them with Nissan parts. It came to grief one October evening on I-95 near the George Washington bridge. The yellow one is in the hands of my friend George who did a complete restoration and moved the performance parts from the wreck engine to it. He still has it.
