The last person who started the "gun debate" left the conversation when I stated that my legal guns were safer that you voting for Obama.

Usually I try to have a civil conversation with them about the differing points they bring up, and invite them to shoot a bit, so many times I can convert them. But after about 15 minutes and I can see they'll never get it because they're closed minded, I usually just tell them they're either fearful, mentally challenged, or an Obama voter and leave it at that!

Over the years my patience has waned, and the wife tells me I frequently have an attitude problem...go figure.

She sees the world the way it should be or she wants it to be and I see it the way it is.

Yes. I try the whole, "if guns kill people then pencils cause misspelled words" saying and see how it goes from there

That is a little nicer than what I tell them.

 

I had this conversation this weekend. It went like this:

them: "You carry a gun right? Do you honestly think you could have stopped that guy in the theater?"
me: "Maybe, and maybe not but I at least would have a CHANCE to do something. What's your plan?"

 

I do my best not to make points like F-U or you are a comme and stuff like that.

What I tell them is this, you (as in they) have rights and privileges to do and perform all kinds of acts at anytime. At what point have I regulated their rights and privileges? So do not regulate mine.

Lastly I ask them to go with me to the range, if they say YES I setup a FUN time, shooting cans, balloons and things like that. I do not use human type targets or talk about how this round does this or that. Just a fun shooting day.
