I was reading through some of this area and while I dont have tons of stuff put back, I am interested in preparing for a bad day.

Just what events would put us over the edge into chaos? I feel the most likely is a chemical or biological disaster.

Thoughts?

seriously though if anybody thinks the democrats will fix this banking problem that they caused in the first place . then i think they might as well be buying lottery tickets.

when the economy breaks down that will trigger a lot more crime .
i believe that would lead to what you were talking about.

a series of car bombs at malls across america combined with an attack at the mouth of the mississippi that would close the river for more than a couple of weeks... toss in a good cyber attack on wall street and you have a total breakdown

I was having this exact conversation with an Air Force Reserve clergyman the other night.

I don't think it would take large attacks to get panic flowing freely. I think several small attacks on schools and hospitals would get it rolling quickly.

As a group, we love our kids and nothing really sets people off like messing with kids. You hit schools and cause injuries and then hit the hospitals (it wouldn't take many to cause a lot of trouble) and you've got some serious issues on your hands. I could see families fighting to get their kids into a hospital and they wouldn't have the capabilities if other hospitals had to transfer sritical patients. Either that or just let the criticals die and focus on the little stuff, which we know wouldn't happen.

The biggest potential situation for a disaster/shtf, is a total power grid shutdown, for more than a few days. If one of the major power grids were damaged, and had to draw electricity off of the other grids, those could shut down as well. Then you'll wind up with widespread looting, rioting, and general anarchy.

with all of the landslide predictions saying that obama will win... what happens if he looses by 5 pts?

the screams of voter fraud will be loud... will it be enough to spark a powder keg?
it will be the rodny king riots all over again but on a bigger scale

What if the gas stopped flowing and the trucks stoped delivering for just a week? To many are adicted to the walmart monster for food.

How about 10 missing / unaccounted for Soviet battlefield nukes going off in the following cities: Seattle, Long Beach, San Diego, Houston, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Miami, Norfolk, Wall Street and Washington D.C. That is the ultimate SHTF scenerio IMO. Hope you're a country dweller who's also a good hunter with plenty of weapons and ammo and a good network.

ive always believed that the 2 prime targets on the east coast to cause the most damage to the military would be Norfolk and Jacksonville FL... I mean can you imagine the success of taking out a carrier while it was in port?

So when they nuke Norfolk and I have like 5-6 minutes to GTHO should I go West (the relative fastest route but can be blocked by traffic) or should I head straight south to NC toward Elizabeth City.
If you need to get out of town quick a dual sport motorcycle is the best way. Traffic, lack of roads, or road blocks are not a problem.

You could probably throw in Charleston and Kings Bay also.

My sister lives 3 miles from the main gate at Kings Bay,and they are well aware of the fact that they would be on the "hit list". :(

Kings Bay is so close to JAX that if the jet stream were doing the right thing, a hit on JAX would take out Kings Bay with just the fallout.

What about Bragg? Home of the 82d an all, plus Pope AFB. I figure if it comes down to nukes, none of my best-laid plans will amount to much at all.

well the assumption is that anything that happened would be a single or double strike only... with bragg, how many of the units based out of bragg are actually on base at any given time?

if a strike caught JAX or Norfolk with a carrier in port, you would have tens of thousands of sailors plus all of their ships...

norfolk is also close to quantico as well as the newport news ship yard...

from a tactical standpoint, i dont know if there is a better east coast target than Norfolk for a single strike

Tactically that may be correct but DC would be devastating also. There are many bases close by, large concentration of people, and of course the center of gub. An ultra light can get close enough to a carrier to take it out. Just radiating it with a close strike will put it out of commission for a long time. Hitting the kalifornicate coastline bases would cause fallout across most of the nation. Taking out mid america bases would cover the rest of us because of the prevailing winds. Sooo, just be prepared to cope with fallout-anything else and you will be too close to worry about any other scenario. If that sounds morbid then that is just the way it is. They intend to kill as many as possible and will at some time. IMO the nuclear program of Iran needs an "accidental" discharge. Just one "accident" and you end their program forever. wc
