Under the NC CCH laws you can't do anything unless the violence is directed at you OR you know one of the "defendees", they (or you) didn't start it, and there is imminent danger of death.
Best advice is leave while calling the police WITHOUT drawing your gun, waving a gun around is going to cause everyone to panic needlessly and unnecessarily escalate the situation.
Exactly
NC law 15A 401D2
it is reasonable to use deadly force to prevent yourself or a third party from what a reasonable person would believe to be the use or eminent use of deadly force or serious bodily injury.
Bear in mind (especially in the situation just shown): should you pull metal and come to the aid of the other party that is getting pummeled, are they going to stand valiantly next to you in court and explain why they are greatful that you stepped in and returned order to the situation?

no?
Ok then, so I would create as much safe distance that I can from the situation, and be the best witness that I can be when the police arrive.
I have a feeling that this Affray was quite mutual, and although I feel its my duty to protect people from undue harm, my BIGGER concern is if "I" escalate it with a firearm, now any shooting that occurs is "MY" fault.
I doubt that our fat Gangsta friend spends much time at the range, so he will likely just start spraying.
Not good to bystanders...
Now if the shooting starts, I'll do my best to end it, but hopefully my family and I are in a situation where I'm not jepordizing their safety by moving toward the violence as opposed to away.
I DO carry everywhere, even to the mailbox.
I DON'T take my radio with me, and if I don't have backup coming, then my concern is my loved ones.
