I keep my pistol bedside but would grab an AR if given time/choice.

 

This. Wife keeps her carry gun by her too. If I do have time for an AR wife's getting the 12ga because it's there too and she's more familiar with it, for now. I might not be clearing the house, but I will be moving no question about it. ARs aren't too terrible one handed for short periods.

 

12ga along with pistols in the bedroom. Gonna ruin someone's day coming up our stair case when they meet that shot coming down at them.

I keep two pistols between the mattress and the wall on each side and a beater AR slung over left bedpost. It's less for human intruders; I live in an area with lots of coyotes and I have 2 dog doors.

I'd keep an AR slung over the bedpost too if my bed was outside the house and there were critters running around.

 

Pistol. Easy to keep handy. Free hand to open doors, etc.

 

Pistol currently but my ar pistol will take that duty once it's sighted in and has a pressure switch flashlight attached.

 

G19 on the nightstand, Mossy 590A1 under the bed. Combination of 00B and 1oz slugs.

 

Pistol is always near, preference for long gun if I get to it. I'm a little partial to the AR incase it goes outside or bug out is needed. More ammo is a plus. That said Im comfortable defending with a shotgun inside the home. For moving targets, pointing shooting with a shotgun (not aiming) is fast and natural for me. Lots of time behind one, much better with a shotgun than a pistol.

Opening doors? Im not from the clear the house mindset. I'll hunker down in the dark bedroom and wait for someone to step into the hall. The shotgun is great for this. If penetration was a concern I'd go AR and frangible ammo.

All these tools have a use and purpose imo.

 

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. Just the solution that you choose to make yours.

Now the important question... while you are moving forward, where will your spouse be? Think about it. Very important piece of information. Always know what is downrange!

 

Shotgun. I don't have the best vision without glasses or contacts but I can see shapes and a bead good enough to be on target. Also the sight of my large naked hairy ass will likely kill any intruder.

 

Pistol

 

I voted shotgun but really its pistol and shotgun. Pistol is on my nightstand and shotgun is is nearby in a shot lock. Going to transition to an AR soon as i get comfortable with it

 

1911 is located very close, the AR is next given time.

 

I keep a pistol on top of my nightstand by the bed, and a shotgun loaded with 00 buck in the corner. Not sure which I'd go for first.

Normally I prefer 1B for the shotgun, but that can be a bit difficult to find.

 

870 Wingmaster loaded with 00buck with a reload on the stock.

 

Pistol indoors and AR if I need to go outside..

 

Pistol is on the nightstand and the 12 ga is within a couple of steps. If I have time, I'm grabbing the shotgun and positioning myself in the doorway, pointing downstairs. If the dogs and my light sleeping don't give me notice, pistol it is.

Pistol beside the bed. Ive also got an AR handy with some Winchester frangible ammo in it. Hope to never have to use it, but if I do itll be an ammo test with the frangibles

 

If the bad guy was actually brave enough to make it through the minefield in our house (Legos, Rescue Bots, Octonauts, Power Rangers, Paw Patrol, Avengers, Tonka Trucks, Tractors, Star Wars Lightsabers, etc.) then we would have to fall back on our bedside pistols (his and hers) to reach the nearby AR rifles (his and hers) while the Benelli 12g sat there begging for its turn to play as well.

There should have been an "All The Above" choice

I voted for all of the above.

 

Pistol on the bedside table, shotgun just inside the closet door a few steps away. The M+P can go with me when I leave in the morning and the closet gets locked when we are gone. That way I don't have to worry about leaving guns out or putting them away and getting them back out every day.

 

If at all possible, id like to take the silent approach with the ole trusty louisville slugger. Still a ways away from the suppressor silent approach.
