I chose an AK because of its reliability.
Two 30 round mags for hunting and self defense. The mags can also be used as a hammer.
The cleaning rod can be use as a skewer to cook with, a fishing rod and other things.
Accepts a bayonet for self defense , hunting knife, screwdriver, and other use's

I took and wraped the sling with about 30ft of 1100 paracord. With it I also interweaved my bayonet with wire cutter sheath, cleaning kit, and a magnesium fire starter.

Added a weapon light to see and for signaling.

The pistol grip can be used for storage. In it I have two fish hooks, 50ft of fishing line, and a small amount of gun powder, which can be used for fire starting and to cauterizing wounds. And steel wool for fire starting.

The butt stock works well as a storage compartment.
In it I have a survival blanket which can be used for shelter, signaling, warmth, to collect water, and many other use's.
Extra batteries for the flash light and fire starting.
Water purification tablets, enough to make a gallon.
    Pain killer's.
    Hydrocortisone cream.
Alcohol prep pads, can also aid in fire starting.
    Butterfly stitches.
    Band aids.
All wraped in a zip lock bag

This way if something ever happens( lose my B.O.B or what ever) I will still have a few supplies with me. Yes it weigh's more,(13lbs), but I think it's worth it

Since I have already "headed to the mountains" I can plan to just bug-in with my own supplies. That makes my 7.62x40WT AR-15 MY ideal weapon.

This is a hard question to answer only because I feel the "bug out" situation would dictate the weapon/s. If it was a basic survivalist, no SHTF scenario, I would opt for a 45 LC lever and the S&W Gov. If it was total anarchy, I would for one of the ARs and a high capacity 9mm handgun. I already have bug-out bags for both scenarios.

High quality AR15 and Glock 19 Pistol. Remington 870 Shotgun. Reason for these is common availability of ammunition and magazines and they are all reliable. These are not my favorites at all though. I prefer in same order as above: AK74, Walther PPQ 9mm, Winchester 1300 Defender.

PS90. Simple operation, easy maintenance, 50rd mags, ammo is light and small, and I can't think of any living creature that a 5.7 wouldn't take down.
