Why do we have the new Filters?

It just doenst make sense to me. You still think the word when you read "shit". They are just words that someone over the last few decades thought where offensive. I don't like the word snatch or pussy,,,just don't like them but don't care if others use them. Why are we so politically correct.

I agree the filter is silly.

But I do see the value in trying to keep a G or PG rating in the open forums. I'd rather see more self-policing or, in the case of egregiously offensive language, anyone could "remind" the poster to keep it civil.

Good points...............open forums are many times active with people from all walks of life who browse for content and information but are not comfortable with challenging language in mixed company. We have sub-forums that are very, very loosely moderated for those who want to take things to different levels of content and language.

Self-policing and reminders from other members works many times and allows staff to stay out of the editing, etc. Whether we agree or not......sponsors, companies, and many CSC members wish for us to maintain a "grandma friendly" level of content out in the open forums. That is also what helps us keep the "lights on" and defray costs so we can enjoy a great gun lovers community of members.

believe it or not, we get a lot of complaints from people about profanity in the open forums. We don't want to be jerks about it, but the mods can't be everywhere all the time. I will see if there is any way to turn it off in the minefield. I don't even notice it myself, I grew up around drunken sailors, so I thought my TI was an amateur at yelling/ cursing when I made it to basic.

I think the ownership of the forum looks for member feedback on a deeper level that if someone is subscribed or not. My personal assumption is that they receive and integrate feedback from any user that has been involved with the forum longterm and has shared valuable insight and knowledge to help better understand and further all 2A causes that ensure our rights remain.

One thing I've noticed, certain folks who use more "colorful" language in open forums don't often use the same language when communicating one-on-one, either by email or in-person. I don't think I see it as much relatively speaking at CSC (even before the filters) I assume because of the closer knit nature of the community, and the active moderation, but on some other sites it's ridiculous. Not sure what drives that.

I think it's the same thing that happens when (some) people get behind the wheel. I garun-darn-tee 90% of the DB maneuvers I see on the road would never take place on the sidewalk, face to face! That little perceived bubble of anonymity or safety allows aggressive behavior to leak out of the meatbag...

Thank you, you moron!;)

EDIT: That just reminded me: years ago (like 15 or more), I was riding with a buddy in/near W-S. We came to an intersection same time as an elderly woman. Since she was on our right, he waved her through. She just sorta stared at us. So he pointed to her, and made the wave-through again. She just sorta stared. Finally, he honked, frantically waved her through 3-4 times while saying some rather choice words with a pretty angry expression on his face. THAT time, she looked shocked and floored it through the intersection.

A few seconds later, he looked kinda sheepish and said, "Y'know, I'm nice. I'm just not very nice about it."
