I put a set of desk drawers under my workbench and made up two kinds of divider/boxes. for the boxes I used a series of cut off motor oil containers sliced in various directions. for dividers I made strips of wood/hardboard and glued strips of mouse pad material to the ends. They are long enough to spring into to place, but easy to reconfigure. Also made up special holders using cardboard and hot glue.
I also mounted a piece of 1/2" ply to the wall over my bench. I am making special hangers for some tools that just get screwed to the wall and magnetic knife holder racks to stick things to.
You will need to do a brutal sort on what you want in drawers, what you want on the wall and what you need to get rid of.
I can take photos of my area, but it is a work in progress. Let me know.
Here are a couple of sites to mooch around for ideas.
