I personally would like to thank 1911Tuner for his excellant workshop today!!
The light blub came on several times around the table today. Most of the guys were impressed with the no tools detail strip of the 1911.

I had a great time with the rest of the csf crew and Tuner!! A BIG TWO THUMBS UP:thumbup::thumbup:

I 'preciate the good words, Thunder. I like to see that light come on. I think the one that came on and blew was the guy to my right...can't remember his name...when the hammer wiped that thumb safety off. He seemed to be a mite unsettled over that.

I hate that we had all those dog issues. Time slipped up and they didn't get to do the run-go-pee at 1130 like they usually do. Guess I shoulda called a short break and let'em out...but honestly, it didn't feel like it was that late. That broke my cadence, and I didn't get a few things explained clearly enough...or at least I didn't feel like I did.

Overall, a good class and a good time was had by all. I'll do another one in a week and another one a week after that on the 4th...then I'll take a little break.

Tuner, thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us today. I enjoyed it as much the second time as I did the first - and continued to learn and understand more and more.

Dog issues? I think the only dog issue you have is that my daughter wants to adopt Tug after hearing of his exploits today. I think all your dogs are cool, but for some reason, that ol' Tug strikes a chord with me. I believe he thinks he's the USMC Bulldog the way he jumped up in your chair to take over for you while you were getting your calipers.

Take care. Hope your next two go well. See you down the road somewhere!

db...Jim and Byrdman have one scheduled for sometime this coming week so I can have a look at Jim's Commander issues. I've done some work on Smith & Wesson revolvers in the past, but I normally stick to 1911s these days.

Diver...tell your daughter that she should be careful what she wishes for. I've considered feeding him to the Huskies a few times.

And why would't I be? Never saw that happen (before) and hope I don't (again)... Just plane sobering I tell ya!

Thanks for your time. As for me it was time well spent. Thank you again.

As a result of this I think I found the issue with my little Para. The link is binding the slide lock. I'll have to prove it by taking out the barrel, reassemble and see how far it goes into the detent with just the slide and mag.

Not as unsettled as I was with the guy who'd never seen it happen...and demonstrated it to me standing at the counter in moderately crowded gun shop...with a loaded pistol. After everybody got up off the floor, we collectively thanked many various insundry gods that he had the good sense to point it straight up.

He looked like somebody had just hit him with a cattle prod, and it was nearly a full minute before he could speak...and most of the noises that he made would barely pass for actual words.

Well...at least he didn't drop the gun.

The Big Bang theory is real. I'm convinced of it. I swear I saw stars circling my head.

One demo that I forgot to make was the use of a fired .45 case as a field expedient replacement for a lost recoil spring plug. Works quite well, actually, but I don't suggest trying it with a full-length guide rod.

Tuner cleaned up the trigger on my new 1911 and dropped the pull weight by about a pound.
I greatly enjoyed the lesson.
I went home and bought parts soon after leaving. My new 16lb spring should be here in a couple days, as opposed to my 75,000 lb recoil spring that was in it (18 really, but it was too much). I also have a new recoil spring plug and micarta grips on the way as well.

I would be very interested in sitting in on one of these classes. Please let me know if there is an extra seat available sometime.

Thank You.

Shot the 1911 that you worked the trigger on for the first time today.
Much cleaner pull, but I am feeling some grit on the sides of the trigger somehow. It is something I need to look into. At least, that is the best way I can describe it.

Also changed the recoil spring form 18lbs, to 16lbs, and have no more jams. I was having one jam every two mags, and I shot 160 rounds with no problems.

All in all, your recommendations made this a much better gun.

Thank you Tuner for the open invitation. A class in March or so would suit me well as I work fairly regularly. You are very gracious for offering your expertise. I'd be glad to come with treats for the dogs.

Whoever would like to work on putting a class together for that later date, please contact me and consider me.

Thanks
