I'm glad the officer is going to be OK.
One thing that gets me is when people say stuff like this

"Yeah, I believe God was with him," said Deacon Jules Joseph. "He protected him."

If God was really with him, wouldn't he have prevented the shooting altogether?

Not to change the thread's direction and certainly not to thump you on the head with a bible...and because you asked...

That kind of black and white demand of reasoning will keep you from seeing the answer that you're looking for. I'll point out one thing that's already happened (and yes, I'll attribute it to God): he got you to think about God and even mention him. Whether it does anything is another story (even if it distances you further from him). The point is, we don't always know why something happened the way it did because, to be blunt, it's none of our business--it's God's business. More often than not, hindsight will show you his work, but you'll rarely see it on the front side like this situation.

There's nothing wrong with your question...it's very human and perfectly reasonable to wonder it. Just don't let it hinder you. It's a weak insignificant thought to have it hang you up and dictate your life's direction.
