Lawyer up. Same thing happened to us coming from the same destination. Wait till you get a half dozen solicitations in the mail from local lawyers. Check them out here, martindale.com

Then call the one or two who look best suited. They should be able to secure a significant reduction in the charge. I find I end up paying them what I would have paid in fines and court costs. But then your record is not impacted (as much in this case) and you don't get killed on insurance premiums for three years.

Most all of the ones that chase this kind of business charge the same thing. The better ones might charge $50-75 more in my experience. Being that the charge is 28 mph over, I couldn't say what you should expect.

 

You need to find someone good in the area to help.
They can take you DL and you will.have a hard time on insurance for the next several years....
Also now that credit and other things use the driving record you really want that thing gone.....

I may be wrong, but I thought doing over 80 mph was a mandatory court appearance. Any one know for sure?

 

My VERY first ticket was an 84 in a 55. I didn't have to appear.

 

28 mph over the speed limit is gonna hurt if it gets on your record. Definitely get an attorney, it is a scam, but they will be able to get the ticket knocked down so it doesn't hurt so bad and it shouldn't cost more that the fees and fines you would have to pay anyway.

 

Word of advice, ONLY get a lawyer that is from the same jurisdiction as your court appearance. That brings in the "Good ole' Boy" factor in your favor. You send a high falutin', he ain't from around here, attorney and your azz is grass....

 

Sad part is YOU have to pay for the mistake the LEO made. At least it isn't going to cost you your dog or your life like so many others as of late.

A person who drives a vehicle on a highway at a speed that is either more than 15
miles per hour more than the speed limit established by law for the highway where the offense
occurred or over 80 miles per hour is guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor.

 

SO, I feel some vindication after reviewing the data on my GPS.. from the time I got on 421, until I was stopped, my max speed was WELL under 83mph. Clearly the Trooper was mistaken with which vehicle he was targeting here. I'm going to give an attorney a ring tomorrow and see what options are.. if I can submit this log from my GPS, I would hope they could throw the whole thing out... we shall see!

Glad to hear that, let us know what you find out with the GPS log. That would be a very helpful piece of equipment for many drivers to be aware of. That area is a speed trap, especially at Laurel Springs Baptist Church (big church on the right as you leave Boone. I have had them turn around on me at 60mph. My wife drives it everyday...ugh.

Yep probably 10% or more of the income for the area. State gets some, judge gets some, lawyers get some.....

 

They lie in wait along Hwy 321. I've seen as many as 3 or 4 of them working the area where it goes from 55 to 50 mph. They will get you for 5 over!
