Illegals targeted sheriff as gang initiation

Jerry Seper

The attempted assassination of a South Carolina deputy sheriff was a gang initiation carried out by three illegal immigrants including a 15-year-old boy who was supposed to "kill a cop" in order to be admitted as a member, according to a confidential Department of Homeland Security advisory.

Lexington County, S.C., Deputy Sheriff Ted Xanthakis and his K-9 police dog, Arcos, were attacked by the three illegals armed with a 12-gauge shotgun during a Feb. 8 incident in West Columbia, S.C., shortly after 3 a.m. The deputy and his dog survived.

Two of the men were identified in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report as members of the Surenos gang, or SUR-13, a collection of Mexican-American street gangs with origins in the oldest barrios of Southern California.

Hundreds of SUR-13 gangs operate in California and have spread to many other parts of the country. The paramilitary organization has been described by federal law enforcement agencies as actively involved in illegal-immigrant and drug smuggling.

According to the ICE report, the attack occurred as the deputy responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle.

The 15-year-old and two others, Carlos Alfredo Diaz De Leon, 17, and Lucino Guzman Guttierrez, 20, were later arrested by sheriff's deputies and members of the U.S. Marshals Service. Diaz De Leon and Guzman Guttierrez were charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.

Deputy Xanthakis and his dog were in a marked patrol car at the time of the shooting.

The 15-year-old was taken to a pre-trial detention facility, where he was awaiting a hearing in family court. Prosecutors said they would recommend that the boy be prosecuted in family court on a charge of assault and battery with intent to kill.

Under state law, law enforcement officials cannot identify the boy because he is a juvenile.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts told reporters that Diaz De Leon, Guzman Guttierrez and the 15-year-old illegally entered the United States from Mexico. He said Diaz De Leon and Guzman Guttierrez were living in West Columbia and a search of their house netted items thought to have been stolen in vehicle break-ins in Lexington County, including a Global Positioning System devices and car stereo systems.

The sheriff also said that deputies recovered the shotgun that was used to shoot at Deputy Sheriff Xanthakis.

ICE detainers have been lodged against the adults.

The ICE report, made public Wednesday by the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), said interviews determined that the 15-year-old was the shooter and the incident was a gang initiation. It said gangs "have long posed a threat to public safety and law enforcement but the threat is now increasing in scope. ... Never before have the street gangs in South Carolina actively targeted law enforcement officers for gang initiation."

ICE agents, as part of a nationwide crackdown on gangs, have arrested members of SUR-13 in Tennessee and Georgia on charges ranging from felony theft and illegal re-entry after deportation to murder, attempted murder, carjacking, armed robbery and drug dealing.

William Gheen, president of ALIPAC, described the attack as the "beginning of America's nightmarish future as we descend into the type of anarchy found in Mexico.

"In Mexico, things have deteriorated so much that police are demoralized and are being killed by these gangs of a weekly basis," he said. "That's what happens when your nation loses respect for the rule of law as we see with the effect of millions of illegal aliens in America."

He said the U.S. needs to secure its border and enforce its immigration laws "or we will begin to lose more officers and as we loose officers, gang rule will replace the rule of law."

Unfortunately there's nothing to stop them from doing this crap. Our laws have no theeth against this sort of thing and they have learned to have no fear of the system. The only thing they are going to understand is a .451 projectile at a moderate rate of speed placed at the center of a triangle formed by the eyes and the tip of the nose.........

Wait, I have a great idea.
You will no longer have any rights in the US if you are not a US citizen!
Get the hell out of the US or you will be treated like trash and thrown away. This might cure some of our illegal alien problems. You will be deported in the leakiest, carbon monoxide spewing, unsafe vehicle we can locate, get out, we have enough problems in the US without you sneaking over the border.

This illegal immigration issue disgusts me. WWII vets that fought for this country not to be invaded must be turning over in their graves. I can't even express how ashamed I am of the government. :x
Amen. I really think most people don't think about the drain illegal immigrants put on our economy. And don't feed me the "illegals do jobs Americans don't want to do" line, if there are no illegals to do the job then Americans will have to do them. Think about how the unemployment rate will change today with a sudden glut of available jobs. Well that just might stimulate the economy.

As long as we handle crooks with "kids gloves" they will continue to snub their noses at our laws. 80% of all prisoners are repeat offenders--SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING. When a crook gets sentenced he should not have any time off for "good behavior" but get time added for misbehavior, for any offense gesture or act of arrogance. They should be taught to obey the rules TO THE LETTER or get the snot beat out of them. When they get out they will shudder at the thought of having to return. Prisoners(not inmates) used to have to work hard, grow their own food, and be forced to obey ALL orders/rules. If not they got tied over a barrel and whipped with a leather strap by another prisoner. If he messed on himself then it was considered a good lesson and he probably never got another. Rant off, wc

sheriff

and this "hit boy" is going to be tried in family court. assault w/ intent to kill and conspiracy to commit murder, this one should be tried as an adult.
but this is a trend i've seen in the justice system where police don't get the same equal protection of the law that citizens do. i've seen offenders who committed crimes against L E O 's treated less severely than ordinary criminals. kind of like the officer is in the buisness and deserves it.

if there is one SUR-13 member left in that co. the sheriff doesn't have one ball. rant off.

I agree. I mean what harm can come from people saying that you are purposely targeting illegals. Get them the hell out or post their whereabouts or addresses of them and their families. Cripes, let me not pay a bill or something. people know where to find me.

We need to have Homeland Security rounding up these a-holes and start deporting them.
They need to be gone after with the same fever as you would a Taliban terrorist.
Instead the Homeland Security is busy keeping tabs on Americans like ourselves for being threats to security of the country.
My family has been here over 300yrs and I'm considered the threat

There is something that the illegals and socialist-liberals aren't counting on. Once American citizens really get fed up with molly-coddling maggots like illegals, then a bit of vigilante justice gets meted out. It has happened in the past in different parts of the country and its usually something you wouldn't think would trigger it. Some illegal will cross the wrong 'good ole boy' and then it will be "Katie bar the door" and there won't be a thing the officials will be able to do about it.
