Something you don't see every day: Coming back into my neighborhood around noon I saw what I thought was a guy out walking his dog. As I got closer I realized it wasn't a dog, it was a deer with an orange collar (but not on a leash), running ahead of him. I managed to get past them without creating any road kill, but I still have no idea what was going on there.

Maybe this guy is thinking orange collars will keep hunters from shooting it, like in this article:

http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com...s/local/alabama/2014/10/04/hunters-asked-harvest-orange-collared-deer/16724067/

The problem here, that I see, is that NC doesn't have a similar tracking program going on. Which means any hunters in NC who see something like this in the wild probably won't have any issues with shooting the deer anyway.

EDIT:

Since deer are illegal as pets in NC (I believe), seems to me that this person has trained the deer to be approachable to within can't-miss-if-I-tried range.

:D

I think a pet deer would be awesome...I think for it to be a good pet you would have to raise it from a fawn, and would probably need to be a doe. If I had a doe as a pet you best believe I'd take it hunting with me when it went in heat, tie it to a tree 40 yrds away, and wait for the big boy...Is that so wrong?
