So, I'm pondering purchasing a mid-higher end built AR and have narrowed it down between these 2 companies. I have it narrowed down to the BCM Recce KMRA 16, DDM4V7, and the DDM4V7 pro. Does anyone have experience with these? It would be mainly for plinking, the occasional class and home defense. I can't really decide between the 2 brands or the MLOK vs keymod rail system. I also am having trouble deciding 16 vs 18 in barrels. I would probably end up putting some BCM parts on the DD, but prefer the DD furniture. Either would end up with a Geisselle trigger of some kind. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can't compare the quality of DD or BCM to that of Palmetto or Aero. Yes I run a Aero upper receiver on my SBR but of the issues Aero has have the upper is not of my concern.

You want a rifle that you can depend you life on, DD& BCM.

You want a rifle to toy around with, Palmetto

Palmetto are having lot of quality issues at the moment from the post I've seen on the FB groups.

OP I do have a BCM rifle that I built (bought BCM lower, few months later bought a BCM upper) Just need to add BCG and sights.

I'd steer clear of the pro if you plan to shoot indoors.

Other than that, it's personal preference. Both companies make a top notch working gun that you can count on. I've got the BCM Recce 14 and it's an absolute tack driver that has been flawless for the last 3 years. I had a DDM4V1 that was awesome as well.

I had a lower end gun once.
Once.

I had the handguard on a brand new DD rifle loosen on first range visit, I realize this is minor, and anything can happen with manufactured items, but at that price point and the reputation as being one the best, I wasn't impressed. Sold it.
Thats like selling a Rolls Royce because the window wouldn't roll up

Check out gun thots video about their BCM review they did I understand shit happens when you’re putting out as many rifles as they are but they way they handled the whole situation very disappointing i think KAC or LMT would be better options than either but I’d take a Daniels riffle before a BCM

I've had several AR's over the years. Both Gucci and "pieces/parts".. One of my all time favs was a lil Rock River from before they got all full of themselves. Still have a lil Del-ton the ol lady drug home one year that I beat the crap out of on the 4 wheeler around the hunt club in warmer weather. Cheesy lil Amazon dot sight stays on target when I occasionally check it and has yet to use a battery. They've all been fun.
Invest in the barrel and trigger. They make the bigger difference. The rest is mostly just preference and what strikes ya best I can tell.
Prolly a lil more than ya wanted. Just ramblin.. YMMV.. d:^)

I have had BCM and Daniel defense uppers. Accuracy and fitment were near identical. I feel you get the best bang for your buck with the BCM. That gives you extra cash for ammo or optics.

I have never dealt with Daniel defense customer service, but BCM CS was very friendly and replaced a broken grip and cracked upper receiver (my fault from trying to untorque a barrel nut) with no questions asked.

For a craftsman, tool quality matters. If it’s something you might stake your life on, choose wisely.
IMO OP has narrowed to two of the best for quality and reliability.

…couple years ago I drug myself an hour or so down the road for some training. Salty retired Airborne E9 was running it. Those fellas are generally harder than woodpecker lips and have paid their dues. Of his many opinions, DD was top shelf. It’s what he was using. His staff, all shooters, they were using DD too. I had also drug my buddy with me. Known him since we were pups. He looked at me and smiled. (He had asked my opinion years prior as to what AR to get if he was only getting one…). Who Da thunk it, both us old farts was toting DD too.

No knock on BCM. Good kit…even great kit. I’m a fan of the DD. Got a big brother for the little one. Neither has ever let me down. They do like the old Timex ad says…take a licking and keep on ticking.

What’s not to like.

FTR, the locker is stocked with several brands. I’m also happy with my LaRue for distance and the SIG 716 hasn’t ever skipped a beat either. If I’m running out the door because, I’m taking my Daniel topped with the ACOG.
