Beretta M9 or 92A1?

I've decided on a Beretta 92 style pistol as my next purchase for childhood nostalgia purposes. At work we have available:

92A1 - $650
M9 - $599
92FS - $599

I can't decide which one to get. I didn't pay close attention to the trademarks/markings on the 92A1, but I really like the ones on the M9. Having a removable front sight isn't a big deal to me (92a1), but the rail is okay. I guess. Not sure if I'll use it.

All come with 2 mags. The 92a1 has 17 rounders I think? I forgot to look, but I'd be buying more anyways, I'm assuming the 17 rounders run in the others as well. I also think M9 just sounds cooler. (Little kid in my coming out again)

As you can probably tell I'm leaning M9. Is there something I'm missing that I need to know about?

Thanks as always!

I have one of the early M9 over run guns, really like it.
It has the parts that have the part numbers and also no warning.
Looked just like some of the GI guns that I got to handle several years back.
The last M9's that they were selling were just a 92fs that had M9 on the SN and not much different, I went to buy one of them but it was no way the same as the old one I have, I remember it had the warning on the side also.
So I have no clue what ones you are seeing, but if it was a real M9 I would jump on it.

I think the 92a1 looks the best, and I like having a rail, even if I don't use it. I bought a Police trade-in 92fs Centurion a few weeks ago, so I'm back in the Beretta club. Man they are cool guns. Get yourself some Mecgar 18 round flush fit mags, no matter what model you decide on.

I think they need to make more of the Centurion style pistols. I'd like a 92a1 Centurion if it existed.

Mecgar also makes +2 extensions to give you an even 20. Last ones I bought were $10 and also fit the cz75 mecgar mags.

You said it yourself, it's a nostalgia thing so grab the m9 unless you just really need a rail.

I had a 96 and loved it. I wanted the m9 but they offered me the 96 with factory crimson trace grips at a deal. It was just way too dang big for me to carry it without covering it under a parka or clown shirt. At 5'10" and 170, it still made my shirt hang WAY off body and look ridiculous even with a slightly oversized button down shirt. It's just a big honking hammer, but fun as all get out to shoot.

I already have an M9, so this one caught my eye at a gun show. The dealer originally wanted $698 plus tax. He wound up selling it to me for $600 plus tax and Beretta is doing a $50 refund for military/police etc. to include regular vets. So I basically have $592 out the door in it.

92A1, Compact, Inox

I would go find a nice Police trade in model and do a spring job on it.
A friend of mine suggested a police trade in. My discount will have me at around $530 after taxes. I haven't had a chance to look at local trade in prices though. Apparently there's a couple good places near spartanburg, though. What does a usual trade in go for?

Around here the police trade in go in the range of 275 on a low to about 400 on the high.

Several shops get them from time to time and you can take your pick in the low 300 range.
It was last fall but Lawmans had a bunch in the 300-350 range.

Everything I'm seeing is in the 575-599 range all said and done.

Even Buds as you say, are 548$ cash/mo/wire or 565$ any other payment then you need to pay transfer.

Just about two weeks ago, they were either $515 or $525 shipped on Buds. I looked it up because a friend of mine was thinking of getting one. I had just told him they had gone up to about $600 over the past couple of years, and then felt a little stupid when we looked on Buds and they were closer to $500.

Also, if you look, they have added some kind of make offer option. So they must have some wiggle room, and raised the prices to add that feature.

I got the pictured 92FS Centurion for $300 plus tax, and the night sights are still at about 90%. Police trade in is the way to go, especially if you like that 'Die Hard', beat to hell look.

Sounds like a cache file problem....

I run into that from time to time.
Ads for midway still pop up for the Christmas sales and out of date discount codes for many web sights.
It is ad wear or something like that maybe.

If you click on it and goes to the site it will show current price.

It doesn't matter. It proves my point and they have the make an offer feature. I bet if you make a $521 offer, they accept it, since they only raised the prices in order to add the make an offer feature. It gives them room to negotiate.

I got a used 92F for $300. Not beat up too bad but I sure won't worry if I drop it or scratch it. It is what it is...a "tool"...and I have sure used it.....

I faced the same decision a while back and decided on the 92A1 for the rail. I have not used the rail but I like having it in case I do. The 17+1 is also a nice feature.
If I did not have several non rail gun I may have started that way, I like the trigger guard. But I had several before they started the A1 and did not want to change the leather and other holsters out.
Anyway you look at it, they are good guns.

I ended up with the M9. Been dry firing the crap out of it. Love it so far, other than a few quirks. Whats the proper way to remove the safety? Pushing it up with your thumb? It feels awkward. Do most people just leave it off when shooting since the trigger pull is 70 yards long?

Also, do you guys usually power stroke or use the release on reloads? I've always power stroked every gun, but maybe... 1 out of 50 reloads I activate the safety doing this. That sketches me out. Is this just a training issue to work around?

Taking it out to the range tomorrow :)

Now that you mention it. I have always used the slide release lever on the Beretta, probably because it is so easy to get to and easily depressed, even with an empty magazine in place.

The safety has never bothered me either. I guess I just make it a point to grab the serrations and my fingers don't get close to the safety lever because of it.

I prefer the power stroke. I did fine with the beretta....right up unto I tried to run it hard and fast, then I had your problem. I'd just randomly activate the safety. That's one of the quirks that really got on my nerves.
