Blacks' views on concealed handgun permits in Illinois

Mick Dumke with the Chicago Reader describes a class of ten African-Americans in Illinois who are taking a class to get there concealed handgun permits. With the views of Detroit's Police Chief James Craig and Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke, I think that there is starting to be a sea change on blacks views on guns.

If Lott is correct that this is the beginning of a major shift in the predominate black view on guns (obviously not the view of black gun owners) as being only for the police, criminals and country ********, the liberals will be apoplectic.

Whole lot of cultural inertia to overcome:

If you want to you can see a racist behind every tree.

What a bunch of asses. I'm sure Colion Noir is just an Uncle Tom to them.

There is no easy way to put this. There is a whole lot of ignorant in that video. Not stupid. Ignorant. Unaware. Uneducated on the subject. Wrong. Lied to. Lied about.

My head hurts.

Don't think the NRA was involved in keeping MLK from getting his carry permit. ???

People are connecting all the wrong dots I think.

It just shows how thoroughly propagandized much of the black community has been. NRA = white racists with guns. No, NRA = political opposition to left wing Democrats who want to disarm honest citizens, so the Dems use fear of the NRA as a latter day KKK to scare black voters and keep them in the fold. This has been discussed here by Wahoo and some others. What is interesting is the disconnect between their perception of the NRA (kept MLK from buying a gun?? Really???) and the fact that they almost all recognize the need to be able to defend yourself and your family. The girl at about 4:40 has it right when she comments on how people's beliefs coincide with NRA positions, and they don't even realize it.
Disclaimer: I am a 60 year old white guy. Black folks on this forum please feel free to tell me if I am wrong.

I wonder if the sun ever comes up while you're living on the plantation they've been forced to support

I just posted this on another thread. Don't know how I did that but it was dumb. Guess I was a little worked up.

"Forgive me, but after watching some of this crap I have to rant. I'm sick and tired of hearing the word "*******". From what I hear it's become an out and out racist term. It's no different than ****, paddy, ******, hunky, mackerel snapper, polkack and on and on. I have made up my mind that I am simply not going to use that expression anymore. The rest of you can do what you want but as far as I am concerned it's mostly used as a racist expression directed at mostly rural southern whites. It is just as demeaning as any of the other expressions I quoted above. "

Nope, you got it right. That's a message that has been communicated for many many years. Most Blacks have views that line up with Conservatism, however Conservatives don't have the best marketing plan and simply don't reach out to them to show them so they're left having to listen to one side of the story which is the side the Left preaches. Hard to see anything good about the Right when the only message you get to hear or see if that of the Left.

I'm with you which is why that's not a term that I use. I actually prefer to stay away form all slurs and terms such as those.

Interesting to think we white folks will fondly (proudly?) call ourselves and our friends "********". I do it all the time. Being a intelligent and well educated white man.
Is the term "*******" our "*****"? A derogatory term we have embraced?

Interesting to ponder. I'd be curious what some black dudes think of this?

Yup, which is why I always wondered why some Whites find it so hard to understand why some Blacks use such terms of endearment with each other. Two sides of the same coin.

I have LOTS of friends who are White and refer to themselves as ******** or PWT, however I would never call them as such or use that term.

Yes. You can call me a ******* and I'm ok with it. Mr. Indoctrinated Liberal from Chicago can call me an ignorant ******* and I'll engage him in conversation or ignore him...but deep down inside I know punching him in the soul would give me a guilt ridden satisfaction.

But yes, this clearly demonstrates how successful the indoctrination effort has been. It also shows why we and the generation before us were wrong by being flippant about these "ignorant" freedom haters for years and years. Next time you get lax and think the other side is stupid, pay attention to that video. The adversary in our 2a argument convinced a group of people who firmly back civil rights that they should surrender part of their civil rights (2a) and demonize the main group that continues to fight for that civil right. Really? They really really did that? That's just a damned impressive feat to pull off out in the open with the whole world watching!!

I don't think he is even close to being correct. A few black folks in a concealed carry class in IL and a couple black CLEO's speaking (somewhat) positively about guns hardly represents a cultural shift.

Ok maybe a shift in the right direction then. However I do see it a little larger than you may think. Lots of YT videos to show a fairly large shift imo.

I don't disagree that there has been/is some shift, I just don't see it as a big deal. YouTube is simply showing what many of these folks have thought all along, now they just have a way of sharing those thoughts with the world.

YouTube shows it because it's a novelty to see a black dude talking "educated" about guns. The NRA snatched Colion because of that (yes, he's very good at what he does, but don't for a second that he didn't get noticed by the stiffs at NRA corporate HQ because 'some black guy was making waves on the interweb'). It's not a bad thing really, it just gets more attention because it's folks deviating from the perceived norm. Most white folks think a black guy with a gun is a gang banger and can't possibly make sense. So to see one online "making sense" to them makes quite a stir.

That's the reason for "more" black gun guy videos online, in my opinion.

Agreed.
