What does that mean to you? I just had someone tell me that, and then he wanted to negotiate a deal. Do you consider that backing out of the deal?

To me (and I thought others) if you say "I will take it" all that has to be hashed out is the location to make the deal. Or am I wrong?

"I'll take it" means that they are accepting the terms that you have set forth. Period! If they want to make an offer they're not accepting the price that one has listed.

Any deal that I speak about BEFORE I say "I'll take it" is Final My Grandfather told me along time ago Your Word & Name is your Bond..........

And backing out of the deal, right?

In my view that's a digital handshake and closes the negotiation.
Your guy isn't a very shrewd barterer if he opens with "I'll take it"

Means nothing until the money changes hands...
Really, how so? If someone agrees on a price its ok, but if they decide they want to change their mind its ok?

Not sure how that works. If you agree to take something at a price, that is it.

Yes once it is posted Ill take it means you have agreed to the price only thing left to do is to meet up and seal the deal.

Now if one wants to negotiate a deal they should have sent a pm to the seller, worked out a deal then posted "as per our PMs Ill take it"

To ME: "I'll take it" means I have agreed to your terms of money amount and condition.
Personally, I always say "I'll take it pending inspection" meaning that if the gun is in the condition you claim then I'll pay your dollar amount and we'll part as friends. However, if you have over rated the gun and it's in less condition that what you advertised then we either have a "no deal" or we have a "reduced ($$ amount) deal"...... But that's just me.....

Sure it does. It says I will take it according to the terms of your sale.

"I will take it" means that the person agrees to purchase. Otherwise he is either ignorant, or tends to deal in scumbaggery. If there are any terms left remaining to be finalized, the phrase "I will take it" should not be used until all issues are finalized....pure common sense.

I'd imagine some of the newbys use it to try to tie the seller down to negotiating with him prior to anyone else....eg....in many of the AR threads nowdays. But it's ignorant to say it prior to total agreement on terms.

Agreed! "I'll take it" is the digital handshake as said above.

This is why I've started sayin in my ads "first unconditional 'ill take it' gets it".

It also bothers me when I post that then someone PMs me trying to negotiate and gets upset when someone else comes in and posts "I'll take it" and I sell to them. The time stamp of your first PM means nothing. *FTR this is not directed at one person as its happened a few times.

Care to elaborate? I disagree but I'd like to hear more about why you think this is true.

Yes, I will elaborate....a man's word means nothing in this society, only his actions, and until the money changes hands what somebody tells me they are going to do is worthless to me...

eta: if it did, this thread would not exist....

Gotcha. I guess I was brought up wrong, cuz I was taught the only thing that makes you a man, is your word.

I did have a deal like this go south in here. I told the guy I would take it, and then when I asked him if he was willing to come up this way he simply never messaged me back. I figure he found a closer buyer. However "I'll take it" means I will pay you 1 dollar for your item if you are listing your item for a dollar. If I say I will take it and then try to get you to sell it to me for 80 cents and then back out because you won't, then you should complain to the mods about it imo.

So you just assume that everyone is a crappy man. Thankfully my experiences here have proven members here to be pretty good 'men of their word'. If we were talking about Craigslist all bets are off, it's literally a crap shoot. Regardless that still doesn't mean I won't set the expectation that "I'll take it" seals the deal.
