Hi all. My initial CCW was still pending when 9/11 went down. I still got it in less than 40 days. my renewal, which was last October, took 5 weeks.

I have 4 friends who have gotten theirs within the last two years, the initial permit. Theirs all took almost exactly 90 days here in Durham Co.

Well i got my application all done today, the deputy told me they have up to 90 days but for forsyth county it has been 8-10 weeks lately. When I asked if how i would be notified for what ever unseen reason i was denied she said there should be no reason for that from what she could tell, so from that I guess that she ran my background check and it was OK as it should be. I hope it is less that 8-10 weeks as I would like to buy some handguns.

i just dont understand why i can apply for a loan and get an answer in 5 minutes, run a NCIS check in about 2 minutes, buy a car and it takes less than 4 hours, buy a home in less than a week, get a full credit history in 5 minutes, get a full job/employment history in 10 minutes, pay my taxes in 10 minutes, and get a full moving history for a tenant in less than 30 minutes....

but when it comes to the one tangible piece of property that is GUARANTEED to me by the constitution, it takes 90 days before i can wear it under my shirt... there is no way that anyone will be able to convince me that it actually takes more than about 5 days to check all the stuff that they need to check for a CCH...

I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it that when I went to pick up my CHP, it was dated two weeks prior to the date they called me? I swear they sit on them for the entire 90 days just to make us squeaky clean citizens sweat, because they can.

Just like the utility companies and tag offices, when you have a monopoly, it changes your perspective of customer service, regardless of what the constitution says...

That's because all of those things are completely computerized AND the person doing the checking has complete access to the needed inof unlike some of the things that must be checked for a CHP unfortunately. In NC the main reason is because nearly all of the Mental Health Records have to be checked by hand as they are still in todays world very rarely computerized and even when/if they are LE does not have direct access to these because they are medical records. So LE must wait and rely on those 3rd Party's to check them and supply the results. In addition those insts are spread all over NC (12-13 that are checked) and they are very slow in many cases in returning those results to the SO's. Also because not only does LE do a NCIC Check on the app but they also search FBI Records by fingerprints not only the NCIC database. All of that (which is a very thorough background check and why in NC if you have a CHP you no longer need a pistol purchase permit, because you have undergone a much more extensive check) is the "behind the scenes" reason why it takes the time it does.

About 17 minutes. But I cheated. I live in Alabama!

Your very first one will take 1-2 weeks. After that, you just run in and hand them $10 and the old card, they look at a computer for a minute and print out the new one.

I got mine back today. I got an inside tip that it was in last week but never got the phone call. I decided to call today after work and the nice lady said it was ready to pick up. According to the expiration date of 5 years it was actually processed on 1-8-08. Prolly been laying over there since a few days after that. I'm just glad I finally got it. :D

I finally got my permit today. Applied on 10-31-07 and finally in hand on 2-12-08. 104 day start to finish. Funny thing. Permit states it expires on 12-30-2012. Seems like I waited for 6 weeks from approval to delivery of permit.
