I haven't been do a gun show lately and thought "wow, I'm really glad I went to that gun show." No real bargains on anything, then when you factor in your ticket price, parking in some cases, and having to deal with hundreds of other smelly people, you may as well just go to the local gun shop.
I think part of it is that there is a show every weekend and the vendors are kind of burnt out. They have no incentive to try and move the product. I assume their mentality is that they have just moved their gun shop to a different spot for the weekend, will do the same thing next weekend, and don't have to operate with a sense of urgency. I think that if the number of shows were cut down it would be more like the dealers having a sale rather than just operating business as usual. That said, I get the show promoters want to make us much money as possible, and they do that by having a show every weekend.
I will probably go to one or two gun shows this year simply for the entertainment value. When I really want to make a purchase the gun rack will likely have whatever the gun show had for a lower price, or I can just wait for whatever I am after to pop up on here.
I honestly don't see some of these shows being around that much longer. The last Winston show I was at had lots of empty tables, tables selling airsoft crap, beef jerky, and other nonsense, no deals, and nobody seemed happy. It just didn't seem like a winning combination.
