Just a curiosity thread for those that partake: wondering what folks tend to do in terms of timing of set-up and take-down of their Christmas Trees?

Our typical scheme:
  • Buy the tree on or as close as possible to 17 December which day begins the O Antiphons in Vespers.
  • Usually will decorate on the Sunday before Christmas (which, this year, would be the 18th). Maybe the 19th this year to allow the branches to fall fully.
  • Take down following the end of the traditional Octave of Epiphany (6 Jan => 13/14 Jan).
We have a family tradition where we set the Magi and their camel somewhere in the house and they gradually progress closer and closer towards the creche to arrive on 6 Jan (the shepherds & animals, of course, and the Child appearing on Christmas Eve night).

Christmas tree set up today, decorating tomorrow. This is the start of the season for us. It will come down on or about 3 January.

Usually put up the tree about 2 weeks before Christmas so it doesn't dry out as bad. Then take it down new year's eave. My wife thinks it is bad luck to keep the tree up past new years day.

I'm always mystified about this. It always shows up when I'm not at home. I just assumed it was Santa dropping it off to let me know Christmas was on the way and I need to be prepared. Then he comes back (again, when I'm not there) and leaves presents under the tree. But here's the best part, sometime in January the SOB sends me a bill for all of this!!! What's with THAT anyway??

Be mindful of the smoke with the little fella.
Ain't no shame in wearing a mask, I have discovered.
Have fun, 20 degrees this morning.
